2022 Genesis GV70 Reviews SummaryHyundai’s Genesis luxury brand has only been around for about five years, but it’s progressed so much in that time it seems like much longer than that. Genesis has quickly gone from selling two repurposed Hyundai sedans to fielding a full lineup of luxury cars and creating a distinct identity through bold design. The 2022 Genesis GV70 is the brand’s latest effort. Not to be confused with the Genesis G70 sedan, the GV70 is a crossover SUV positioned below the recently-launched Genesis GV80 in size and price, meaning it competes with the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, Volvo XC60, and numerous other small luxury SUVs. As with the larger GV80 and the Genesis sedans, the challenge for the GV70 will be convincing new-car buyers to abandon familiar nameplates for something they might not have heard of. The GV70 launches with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and optional 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6. The four-cylinder is available with Standard, Select, Advanced, and Sport Prestige trim levels, while the V6 engine is available with all trim levels except the Select. Our test car was a GV70 3.5T, a range-topping AWD Sport Prestige model with the 3.5-liter V6.
2022 Kia Telluride Reviews SummaryInside the halls of Kia’s North American headquarters in Irvine, California, the Kia Telluride is colloquially known as the “Selluride.” Indeed, since the midsize three-row crossover SUV debuted to widespread acclaim for the 2020 model year, Kia’s dealerships have been desperate to obtain as many examples as possible from the automaker’s West Point, Georgia, assembly plant. There is good reason for the model’s popularity, and the 2022 Kia Telluride adds more standard equipment to ensure that rivals know they must still contend with Kia in this segment.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 showcased a distinctive design that set it apart from its Genesis siblings, despite sharing some styling cues. It featured quad LED strips for both headlights and taillights, along with a prominent shield-shaped grille. The GV70's sloping roofline and ribbed detailing added a touch of athleticism to its SUV bulk, creating a blend of ruggedness and sleekness. The Sport Prestige model further enhanced its character with unique styling elements, including 21-inch wheels with a web pattern and dark chrome trim. Inside, the GV70's interior boasted an elliptical theme inspired by an airplane wing, with a minimalist design that included a perched touchscreen and hidden air vents. The interior offered a variety of color options and luxurious materials, such as Nappa leather upholstery with suede inserts in the Sport Prestige model.
In contrast, the 2022 Kia Telluride maintained its handsome midsize SUV appeal with a muscular design and balanced proportions. For 2022, Kia made minor changes to the grille pattern and introduced new badges. The Telluride's interior was both upscale and functional, featuring thoughtful details like overhead air vents, rear smartphone storage pouches, and USB ports in the front seatbacks. The SX Prestige package added premium Nappa leather upholstery and a simulated suede headliner, creating an impression of luxury. The Telluride's interior was spacious, with comfortable seating for adults in all three rows, although the third row was less preferred. The SUV offered ample storage space, with a maximum cargo volume of 87 cubic feet, making it ideal for family adventures.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 offered two engine options: a base 2.5-liter turbo-four engine producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 generating 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. Both powertrains came with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive (AWD). The GV70 included features like a rear electronic limited-slip differential and launch control, emphasizing its sporty character. The Sport+ drive mode further enhanced its performance, holding high revs and sharpening throttle response. However, the GV70's chassis felt heavy, lacking the sharpness of some competitors, and the steering wasn't precise enough for spirited driving. While it excelled on highways, the GV70's ride was firm, even in Comfort mode, and it didn't quite match the luxury standards expected in its class.
The 2022 Kia Telluride, powered by a 291-horsepower 3.8-liter V6 engine with 262 pound-feet of torque, offered a satisfying driving experience. The eight-speed automatic transmission and available AWD with Lock mode provided versatility. The Telluride's ride quality was supple, and it handled well on dry pavement, thanks to its brake-based Torque Vectoring Cornering Control system. Drivers could choose between Eco, Comfort, Smart, and Sport driving modes, with the SX featuring 20-inch wheels for added grip. The Telluride excelled on long-distance drives, aided by Highway Driving Assist technology. It achieved an EPA fuel economy estimate of 21 mpg in combined driving, with a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 offered mid-pack interior space for its segment, with adequate legroom and good rear-seat visibility. It provided 28.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats in place and 56.9 cubic feet with them folded. The daring interior design compromised storage space, with limited room in the center console and door pockets. The Sport Prestige model featured heavily bolstered front seats with heating, ventilation, massage, and posture-assist functions, although some controls were buried in touchscreen menus.
The 2022 Kia Telluride excelled in balancing form and function, with an upscale and organized interior. It featured dual-zone automatic climate control for front-seat occupants and a single-zone panel for the rear. The SX Prestige package added premium Nappa leather upholstery and a simulated suede headliner. The Telluride's interior was spacious, with comfortable seating for adults in all three rows. It offered ample storage space, with 21 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row and a maximum volume of 87 cubic feet. The Telluride's folding seats and flat load floor made it practical for hauling large items.
The 2022 Genesis GV70 boasted a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Its tile-based layout and crisp graphics were user-friendly, and the glass rotary controller added functionality. Higher trim levels offered a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 3D effect and a 12-inch head-up display. The GV70 featured a digital-key option, a fingerprint scanner for starting the car, and a radar-based rear-seat monitor. Genesis Connected Services provided remote camera activation and other features for three years.
The 2022 Kia Telluride came standard with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, including navigation and voice recognition. While it lost wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it offered USB charging ports in all three rows and a wireless smartphone charging pad in most trims. Kia Connect provided connected services, including emergency assistance, remote engine start, and smart speaker integration. The Telluride's safety features included ultrasonic rear occupant sensors and a Quiet Mode for undisturbed rear-seat passengers. The SX model featured a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and a helpful surround-view monitoring system.
The 2022 Genesis GV70, being a new model, lacked crash-test ratings from the IIHS and NHTSA. However, it came equipped with numerous safety features, including lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, blind-spot and forward collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and Highway Driving Assist. The GV70 also featured eight airbags, including a front-center airbag, and optional driver-assist features like Highway Driving Assist 2.
The 2022 Kia Telluride prioritized safety with its Kia Drive Wise suite of driver assistance and collision avoidance technologies. It included forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. The Telluride's Highway Driving Assist technology provided subtle assistance on highways. It also featured Smart Cruise Control-Curve and Safe Exit Assist. The Telluride earned a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA and a "Top Safety Pick" designation from the IIHS.
