2021 Ford F-150 Reviews Summary

The Ford F-Series pickup truck has been the bestselling vehicle in the United States for decades, so a lot is at stake with any redesign. The 2021 Ford F-150 plays it safe, with changes that are smaller in scope than the truck’s previous redesign (for the 2015 model year), but nonetheless significant.

This latest redesign brought an updated version of the previous-generation truck’s bold styling, a revamped interior with more convenience features, and the new Sync 4 infotainment system, as well as an available PowerBoost hybrid powertrain. This is the first time Ford has offered an F-150 hybrid, and the PowerBoost is currently the only full-hybrid powertrain available in a full-size pickup truck.

The F-150’s traditional rivals are the Chevrolet Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500 twins and Ram 1500, along with the slower-selling Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra.

Ford offers a staggering array of options, including six trim levels (XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited), three cab configurations, three bed sizes, six powertrains, and the choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). Our test vehicle was an F-150 King Ranch with the SuperCrew cab, 4WD, and the PowerBoost hybrid powertrain.

2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty Reviews Summary

Ford F-Series trucks are America's best-selling vehicles. The Blue Oval builds and sells more trucks than some companies' entire annual sales runs, and as a result, it offers several configurations for the pickup. There's the F-150 full-size truck, which is considered a light-duty pickup, but we're here to talk about the Super Duty trucks, which include the F-250, F-350, and F-450.

Super Duty models are targeted at buyers that need and want hardcore capability in a pickup truck. The Super Duty trucks are offered in several trims: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. Cab configurations include regular cab, crew cab, and super cab. The Ford F-250 Super Duty is available in single-rear-wheel setup only. The F-350 is available in either single-rear-wheel or dual-rear-wheel setups, while the F-450 is dual-rear-wheel only.

Ford's Super Duty line competes with heavy-duty trucks from Ram, GMC, and Chevy. Nissan dropped the medium-duty Titan XD from its lineup after the 2019 model year and Toyota does not offer a heavy-duty version of its Tundra.

2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty
8/10
The 2021 Ford F-150 continued the legacy of America's best-selling vehicle with thoughtful improvements and the introduction of a full-hybrid powertrain, the PowerBoost. The 2021 redesign focuses on enhancing the truck's bold styling, modernizing the interior with the latest Sync 4 infotainment system, and increasing convenience features. The availability of a hybrid model marked a significant milestone for Ford, offering a blend of efficiency and power unique in the full-size pickup segment. In contrast, the 2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty is designed for those requiring more robust capabilities. While it shares the F-Series lineage, the F-250 escalates the stakes with hardcore utility, more powerful engine options, and a design that emphasizes its heavy-duty nature. Its configuration options cater to a wide range of needs, from workhorse basics to luxury-laden haulers, solidifying its position against competitors in the heavy-duty truck segment.
Performance
2021 Ford F-150
8/10
2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty
8/10
Both the F-150 and F-250 Super Duty score an 8 out of 10 from CarGurus experts in performance. The F-150 offers a variety of powertrains, including the innovative PowerBoost hybrid, delivering an impressive combination of power, efficiency, and towing capability. The transition between electric and hybrid modes needs refinement, but the overall performance is commendable, with standout payload and towing figures for its class. The F-250 Super Duty's powertrains are built for heavy lifting, featuring a base 6.2-liter V8, an optional 7.3-liter V8, and a powerhouse 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel that leads the pack with 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. Its focus on towing and payload surpasses the F-150's capabilities, making it the go-to option for extreme tasks. The inclusion of a 10-speed automatic transmission across the board ensures efficient power delivery.
Form and function

2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty
8/10
The F-150 is designed with utility and comfort in mind, featuring innovative solutions like a fold-flat shifter and Max Recline Seats, enhancing its versatility as a mobile office or rest space. The SuperCrew configuration, in particular, offers generous interior space, with thoughtful storage solutions and optional in-bed power outlets, highlighting Ford's attention to the needs of its users. The F-250 Super Duty, while prioritizing utility, does not skimp on comfort. Its cabin, especially in higher trims, can rival luxury vehicles, though its sheer size and design make it less ideal for urban environments. Features like the optional tailgate steps underscore Ford's commitment to practicality and ease of use in demanding scenarios.
Technology
2021 Ford F-150
9/10
2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty
6/10
Technology is a strong suit for the F-150, scoring a 9 out of 10, thanks to the debut of Ford's Sync 4 system with enhanced connectivity and over-the-air updates. The large touchscreen and digital instrument cluster are user-friendly and packed with features, including advanced towing aids. The F-250 Super Duty, with a score of 6 out of 10, offers the reliable but older Sync 3 system, which is straightforward but lacks the cutting-edge appeal of its smaller sibling.
Safety
2021 Ford F-150
7/10
2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty
5/10
The F-150's safety features and potential ratings earn it a 7 out of 10. It's equipped with Ford Co-Pilot360, providing a suite of driver-assistance technologies, although some are optional. The F-250 Super Duty scores a 5 out of 10, reflecting its commercial vehicle status and the variability in safety features across trims. While it offers robust packages for towing and advanced driver aids, its lack of crash-test ratings distinguishes it from the light-duty F-150.
