CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Toyota Sienna
overall

Summary
With 1,395 currently listed for sale and an average price of $42,313.00, 32.3% of 2023 Toyota Siennas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota Sienna 4.11 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
85.7% of 2023 Sienna models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota Sienna stands out in the minivan class because it uses a standard hybrid engine. That alone gives it a different identity from many family haulers, and it helps explain why the Sienna is often appealing to shoppers who want practicality without giving up fuel efficiency. It is also described as spacious, which fits the minivan mission well, and its standard advanced safety features add to its family-friendly appeal.
At the same time, the 2023 Toyota Sienna is not without compromises. The second-row seats aren’t removable, which limits some of the flexibility buyers may expect from a minivan. It is also described as having sluggish acceleration and an irritating transmission, so drivers looking for quick responses may find it less satisfying. Even so, for buyers who prioritize efficiency, roominess, and safety, the Sienna offers a compelling mix of strengths.

Awesome ride, comfort and great mpg. Good looking too. However, backup camera resolution can be improved. Spare tire should come as standard in a minivan.

2023 Sienna XLE 7 passenger AWD My Grandchildrens Favorite! It has lots of room..they can slide the seats back and have living room comfort. They like the rear USB charging ports, rear AC/heat controls, and they can always fit friends back there with them, and their gear. I like it because its comfortable, safe, and gets 35 miles per gallon. The All Wheel Drive is best..most of those available are Front wheel drive. In recent snowstorms, I saw many other vehicles slid off the road, but I never spun a wheel with the AWD. Fantastic resale value, if I ever want to sell it, such as if my needs change. The hybrid is quiet, smooth, and, actually has more horsepower than the older Sienna V6, because the battery assists with extra power when in sport mode. Now, for what I dont like: Irritating Apple car play, when you plug the maps in, you have to wait, and wait, for the directions to appear. Too slow. Apparently, there is no way to upgrade to Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which apparenly solves that problem. Its unclear why Toyota cant/wont allow the software upgrade to make the Apple Car play faster and not frustrating. The back part of the van is difficult to enter, especially for large adults with knee problems. Young adults, under 200 pounds wont have a problem. We carry a step stool so my wife can enter the rear of the van when desired. I do agree, the 3rd seat, when folded down, kind of bounces, unless you set something on it like groceries, suitcases, cargo mat, etc, but that has never caused us any problem. While I have read of unable to start problems because the battery ran down mostly due to defective foot activated door sensors in the 2022 model, I have not had the problem in the 2023 Sienna. For that reason, I recommend avoiding the 2022 Sienna, and go with 2023. I have no desire to go out to my van, and then not be able to start it because the battery is dead, and for that to happen multiple times. I have never had a dead battery in my 2023. It works great every time, except for the issues I mentioned, above. Lastly, my Sienna came with only one key, this is as convient as a broken leg, and they take forever to get me the promised new key...which has never arrived.

How much does the 2023 Toyota Sienna cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $42,227 |
| Year-Round Low | $40,927.48 |
| Year-Round High | $43,083.80 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $43,089 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.00% |
Prices have softened 2.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,487 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $40,927.48, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Generally — the 2023 Toyota Sienna earns 4.11/5 from owners and 7.67/10 from experts. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its fuel efficiency, spaciousness, and comfort, and many highlight the hybrid setup as a major reason it works so well for families. The expert review also points to its practicality, roomy cabin, and family-friendly safety equipment. In use-case terms, that makes it especially appealing if you want a minivan that prioritizes everyday usefulness, efficiency, and kid-hauling convenience.
The trade-offs are real, though: the second-row seats aren’t removable, and the driving experience is held back by sluggish acceleration and an irritating transmission. Even so, the market still looks supportive, with 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.11/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience centered on strong fuel efficiency, comfort, and family-friendly practicality. The expert review adds that the technology is reliable, which supports the sense that the Sienna is built for steady everyday use rather than drama. Toyota’s hybrid setup also reinforces the impression of a vehicle designed for long-term ownership.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright failure and more about living with the Sienna’s compromises if you expect stronger acceleration or more flexible seating.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the transmission feel, cabin condition, and how well the tech and safety systems operate. Since this is a family vehicle, pay close attention to seat condition, sliding-door operation, and any signs of heavy wear from daily use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LE is the entry point, while the XLE adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate. The XLE is the value-focused choice, especially if you want easier family access without moving up to the pricier trims.
- Powertrain: Every model uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup with two front-mounted electric motors, plus a third rear-mounted electric motor on all-wheel-drive trims. The system makes 245 net system horsepower and is tuned more for efficiency than quick acceleration.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense-style driver assistance is standard, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. There are no trim-level gaps called out in the standard safety equipment.
- Infotainment: The Sienna uses a 9-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, seven USB ports, and an optional navigation system. CarPlay and Android Auto require a wired connection, and the interface can feel dated.
- Fuel efficiency: The Sienna is rated at 35 mpg city, 36 highway, and 35 combined with all-wheel drive, or 36 mpg across the board with front-wheel drive.
Which 2023 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2023 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, and 25th Anniversary Special Edition.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point if you want the Sienna’s hybrid efficiency and standard safety equipment at the lowest starting point. It makes sense if you mainly care about value and don’t need the extra convenience features.
- XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate. If you want the most family-friendly mix of equipment and price, this is the one to target.
- XSE: This trim adds a sportier look and, on front-wheel-drive versions, 20-inch wheels. It suits you if you want a more distinctive appearance without moving all the way to the luxury end.
- Limited: This is the step up if you want a more upscale feel and more premium cabin presentation. It’s a better fit if comfort and refinement matter more than keeping the price in check.
- 25th Anniversary Special Edition: This trim sits just below the Limited in price and gives you a commemorative option if you want something a little more special than the mainstream trims.
- Platinum: This is the top-shelf choice, with the most premium presentation and the highest price. It’s for you if you want the most upscale Sienna experience and are willing to pay for it.
Standard advanced safety features are included across the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without waiting forever.
- Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,487 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.00% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,927.48, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $42,227 sits slightly below last year's $43,089.
That mild decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, the current pricing trend implies you may not see rapid appreciation, but the Sienna’s strong family appeal should help support demand. Its efficiency, practicality, and broad usefulness make it the kind of vehicle that tends to stay relevant with used shoppers.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.11/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna safe?
It earns five-star ratings from NHTSA, and the mechanically identical 2022 Sienna received a Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota equips the Sienna with a strong standard driver-assistance suite that includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That standard safety content is a major strength for family buyers.
One caveat is that the 2023 model itself had not yet been rated by IIHS at the time of the review, so the strongest IIHS result cited is from the mechanically identical prior model year.
Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.11/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It blends hybrid efficiency with standard safety and family-friendly practicality.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $37,260, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $42,227 average.
- It keeps the redesigned hybrid formula and adds a Woodland trim for a more adventurous look.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $45,194, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $42,227 average.
- It leans harder into modern family-hauler practicality with standard hybrid efficiency and available all-wheel drive.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, efficiency, and family usefulness, the 2023 is the smart default. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2022 can save you money while keeping much of the same core appeal. If you want the newest nearby option and don’t mind paying more, the 2024 is the upgrade path.
