CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Honda Passport
overall

Summary
With 182 currently listed for sale and an average price of $28,566, 45.6% of 2022 Honda Passport listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Honda Passport 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.
97.3% of 2022 Honda Passport listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Honda Passport stands out as a rugged-leaning two-row midsize SUV with a light restyle and a new TrailSport trim level. It is based on the three-row Pilot, but its own appeal is aimed more at buyers who want a comfortable, practical SUV with a tougher look. For 2022, Honda also added revised wheel designs, fresh paint colors, and new safety features.
Behind the wheel, the 2022 Honda Passport is described as fun to drive and comfortable, with plenty of cargo space. Those strengths make it easy to see why it can work well as an everyday SUV that still has some adventurous character. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: its infotainment technology is outdated, its advanced safety features are unrefined, and it does not get top safety ratings.

All the features are awesome! Plus, I got a great deal on this vehicle! Nothing is missing from the SUV. This SUV is very similar to the Honda Pilot except for the third-row seating.

We love the Honda Passport for the amount of room inside & all the safety features it came with. I thought it was very comparible in price to the Ford Edge.

Reviewed a 2022 Honda TrailSport AWD on Nov 4, 2022
I had narrowed my search to 3 manufacturers and test drove one from each . Actually I drove two at Honda. The EXL and the Trail Sport. IMO there was definitely a different feel to the two trims. This is due to the wheel size I would imagine. The other models were the Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota Highlander. The Honda passport just has a heavier sturdier feel, more like a truck. Almost forgot, I also drove a loaner Subaru Ascent for a week. It was a nice vehicle. But still preferred the Passport. It just has a much sturdier feel to it. I am still learning all the accessories. This vehicle is impressively equipped. I can’t think of anything else I could want as far as features and accessories. Love my new SUV!

Yes — the 2022 Honda Passport earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
It stands out as a rugged-leaning two-row midsize SUV with a light restyle and a new TrailSport trim level. It is aimed at you if you want a comfortable, practical SUV with a tougher look, and it also brings revised wheel designs, fresh paint colors, and new safety features for 2022.
The trade-offs are that its infotainment technology is outdated and its advanced safety features are unrefined. It also does not get top safety ratings.
Good and great deals account for 33.0% of listings, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Honda Passport reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Passport’s appeal comes from its robust drivetrain, roomy and comfortable cabin, impressive cargo space, and generous standard equipment. It is also described as an undeniably appealing SUV with simple utility, which supports the idea that it should be easy to live with over time.
Its 3.5-liter V6 is described as excellent, smooth, and stronger than its power ratings suggest, and it pairs well with the nine-speed automatic transmission. Honda also includes wireless smartphone charging as standard equipment.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the platform is aging, so its infotainment and driver-assist tech can feel dated and less refined than newer rivals.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Passport?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, since the Passport’s value depends heavily on how well the cabin, brakes, and electronics have held up.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base EX-L includes leather seats and plenty of standard equipment, while TrailSport adds a tougher look, unique 18-inch wheels, a roof rack, simulated skid plates, orange contrast stitching, amber ambient lighting, embroidered headrest emblems, and rubber all-season floor mats. Elite sits at the top of the lineup with the most equipment.
- Powertrain: The Passport uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. FWD is limited to EX-L, while TrailSport and Elite include AWD standard.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. It also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and a seatbelt reminder. The system is comprehensive, but some functions are less refined than competitors’.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite radio. TrailSport adds navigation, while Elite adds a 10-speaker premium sound system and HondaLink connected services with WiFi hotspot access.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates the Passport at 22 mpg combined with FWD and 21 mpg combined with AWD. The TrailSport test vehicle averaged 21.3 mpg over hundreds of miles.
Which 2022 Honda Passport trim should I buy?
The 2022 Honda Passport is offered in 3 trim levels: EX-L, TrailSport, and Elite.
Here's the short version:
- EX-L: This is the entry point, but it still gives you leather seats and the Passport’s core comfort and utility. It is the only FWD version, so it makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and do not need standard AWD.
- TrailSport: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the new rugged styling, standard AWD, navigation, and the most adventurous look without jumping all the way to the top model.
- Elite: Choose this if you want the most upscale Passport, with the 10-speaker premium sound system and HondaLink connected services, including WiFi hotspot access.
Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but its lane-departure warning and lane-centering assist functions are less refined than you may want.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Passport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,940 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.32% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $29,199, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Honda Passport's resale value?
The current average of $29,224 sits slightly below last year's $31,195.
That decline suggests the Passport has softened enough to create a better buying opportunity now, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively. If you buy at today’s average, you are starting from a lower baseline than last year’s market.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Honda Passport safe?
The 2022 Honda Passport earns five-star ratings in all but front passenger protection in a frontal-impact collision, which earns four stars from NHTSA, and it also gets a four-star rating for rollover resistance. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it top ratings in most respects, but it earns an Acceptable rating for front-passenger protection in a small overlap collision.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and a seatbelt reminder.
The main caveat is that the driver-assist tech is effective but not especially smooth or refined, and the Passport does not get top safety ratings.
Should I buy a 2022 Honda Passport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.32% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a light restyle, the new TrailSport trim, revised wheel designs, fresh paint colors, and new safety features.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,075, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $29,224 average.
- It carries over largely unchanged with a familiar, established feel.
The bottom line: If you want the updated look, TrailSport trim, and stronger current-market inventory, the 2022 is the better target. If your priority is spending less and you are comfortable with an older version that still delivers the Passport’s core strengths, the 2021 is the value play.
