CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Honda Passport
overall

Summary
With 1,834 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,627, 31.3% of 2022 Honda Passports for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Honda Passport 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.
82.7% of 2022 Passport models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Honda Passport stands out as a rugged-leaning two-row midsize SUV with a light restyle that gives it a fresher look. It is also the first Honda SUV to wear the TrailSport trim name, which is aimed at buyers who want a more outdoorsy feel. For 2022, Honda also added revised wheel designs, fresh paint colors, and new safety features.
Beyond the updates, the Passport’s appeal comes from its everyday strengths. It is fun to drive, comfortable, and offers plenty of cargo space. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: its infotainment technology is outdated, its advanced safety features are unrefined, and it does not earn top safety ratings.

All the features are awesome! Plus, I got a great deal on this vehicle! Nothing is missing from the SUV. This SUV is very similar to the Honda Pilot except for the third-row seating.

We love the Honda Passport for the amount of room inside & all the safety features it came with. I thought it was very comparible in price to the Ford Edge.

Reviewed a 2022 Honda TrailSport AWD on Nov 4, 2022
I had narrowed my search to 3 manufacturers and test drove one from each . Actually I drove two at Honda. The EXL and the Trail Sport. IMO there was definitely a different feel to the two trims. This is due to the wheel size I would imagine. The other models were the Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota Highlander. The Honda passport just has a heavier sturdier feel, more like a truck. Almost forgot, I also drove a loaner Subaru Ascent for a week. It was a nice vehicle. But still preferred the Passport. It just has a much sturdier feel to it. I am still learning all the accessories. This vehicle is impressively equipped. I can’t think of anything else I could want as far as features and accessories. Love my new SUV!

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Passport’s reliability case is helped by its straightforward V6 powertrain and the sense of solid everyday usability described in the test-drive data. It is also presented as a strong value for buyers who want a roomy cabin, useful cargo space, and a generous equipment list without chasing the newest tech.
The powertrain is described as smooth and strong, and the SUV’s simple utility should appeal if you prefer a proven setup over complexity. Honda also includes wireless smartphone charging as standard equipment, which adds convenience without making the vehicle feel overcomplicated.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Passport’s older platform and dated technology may age less gracefully than its mechanical basics.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Passport?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the vehicle history carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper report. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the brakes, since the test-drive data notes vibration on long descents. You should also pay close attention to the condition of the infotainment and driver-assist systems, since those are the areas most likely to frustrate you in daily use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base EX-L gives you leather seats and a strong standard equipment list, while TrailSport adds a more outdoorsy look with unique wheels, a roof rack, simulated skid plates, orange contrast stitching, amber ambient lighting, embroidered headrest emblems, and rubber all-season floor mats. Elite is the most upscale choice if you want the most bells and whistles.
- Powertrain: The Passport uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. FWD is limited to EX-L, while TrailSport and Elite include AWD standard.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. It also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and a seatbelt reminder. The system is comprehensive, but the lane functions and adaptive cruise control are described as less refined.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite radio. TrailSport adds navigation, while Elite adds a 10-speaker premium sound system and HondaLink connected services with WiFi hotspot access.
- Fuel efficiency: The Passport is rated at 22 mpg combined with FWD and 21 mpg combined with AWD. In testing, the TrailSport averaged 21.3 mpg.
Which 2022 Honda Passport trim should I buy?
The 2022 Honda Passport is offered in 3 trim levels: EX-L, TrailSport, and Elite.
Here's the short version:
- EX-L: This is the entry point, but it still gives you leather seats and the core Passport experience. It is the only trim with FWD, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and do not need AWD.
- TrailSport: This is the best-value trim if you want the Passport’s new outdoorsy personality. It adds the TrailSport look, standard AWD, navigation, and unique interior touches, making it the sweet spot for buyers who want more character without jumping to the top trim.
- Elite: Choose this if you want the most upscale Passport. It adds the premium sound system and HondaLink connected services with WiFi hotspot access, along with the full bells-and-whistles treatment.
Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but its lane-departure warning and lane-centering functions are less refined than many rivals’ systems.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Passport?
This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you should shop carefully and move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,845 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.93% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $29,587, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Honda Passport's resale value?
The current average of $29,625 sits slightly below last year's $31,829.
That decline suggests the Passport has become more affordable for buyers, which can help keep demand steady in the near term. For a future seller, the softer pricing also means you may need to be more competitive if you want to stand out against similarly priced listings.
Even so, the Passport’s strong utility, roomy cabin, and broad appeal should help it remain attractive to shoppers who want a practical two-row SUV. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Honda Passport safe?
The 2022 Honda Passport earns five-star ratings in all but front passenger protection in a frontal-impact collision, which earns four stars. It also gets a four-star rating for rollover resistance. It earns an Acceptable IIHS rating for front-passenger protection in a small overlap collision.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and a seatbelt reminder.
The main caveat is that the lane-departure warning and lane-centering functions are described as intrusive and the adaptive cruise control is not especially smooth. That means the Passport’s safety tech is broad, but not always polished in daily use.
Should I buy a 2022 Honda Passport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.93% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds the first TrailSport trim and fresh safety features.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,569, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $29,625 average.
- It bridges outdoor adventure and daily life with comfort and capability.
The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the updated styling, TrailSport trim, and stronger shopping conditions. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value path, especially if you can find one in good condition with the features you want.
