Is the 2022 Honda Odyssey a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Honda Odyssey earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.0/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, spaciousness, and driving experience, and many say it works especially well for family travel and long trips. The Odyssey’s practical cabin layout and versatile packaging are recurring strengths, while lower-trim feature content can feel sparse to some shoppers. Is the 2022 Honda Odyssey reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert evaluation also reinforces that sense of durability by describing the Odyssey as a simple, practical minivan that remains easy to live with over time. Honda’s maintenance-friendly ownership story adds to the appeal, and the model’s straightforward gasoline powertrain avoids the added complexity of electrification. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related wear and feature limitations can matter more than outright mechanical drama.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Odyssey?

At 73.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the van’s family-use features still work as intended. Because this model is often bought for daily hauling and road trips, interior wear and brake condition deserve extra attention.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX is the most stripped-down version, while EX-L adds leather upholstery and Touring brings more convenience and entertainment equipment. If you want the most complete feature set, Elite sits at the top of the lineup.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and a 10-speed automatic transmission. It is front-wheel drive only, and there is no all-wheel-drive or electrified option.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert require EX or a higher trim.
• Infotainment: Starting with EX, you get an 8-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Touring is required for navigation, HondaLink connected services, and WiFi hotspot access.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation cites 22 mpg in combined driving, and the road test returned 22.6 mpg.

Which 2022 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?

The 2022 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it is the most basic way into the Odyssey lineup. Choose it only if price matters most and you’re comfortable giving up some convenience and tech.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, and the safety upgrades that include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
• EX-L: This trim is the smart step up if you want a more upscale cabin, since it adds leather upholstery and keeps the Odyssey’s core family-friendly strengths intact.
• Touring: This is the better pick if you want more family-trip convenience, including navigation, HondaLink connected services, WiFi hotspot access, CabinWatch, CabinTalk, and the rear-seat entertainment system.
• Elite: This is the most fully equipped version, adding the premium audio system, wireless charging, and the most upscale presentation in the lineup.

The safety package starts with Honda Sensing on every trim, but blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert begin at EX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Odyssey?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,806 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.67% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,205, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Honda Odyssey's resale value?

The current average of $28,205 sits slightly below last year's $31,575.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may temper future resale gains if you sell soon. If you plan to own the Odyssey for several years, the current pricing gives you a lower entry point than last year’s market. Strong demand for practical family minivans can still support value, especially when the vehicle is well kept and lightly used.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Honda Odyssey safe?

The 2022 Honda Odyssey earns an overall five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every Odyssey and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder system. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are reserved for EX and higher trims. The system is useful, but it can react too sharply at times and the blind-spot warning light placement is less intuitive than it should be.

Should I buy a 2022 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.67% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the Odyssey’s enjoyable driving character while adding strong safety ratings.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,872, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $28,205 average.
• It offers a freshened, family-friendly package with improved safety and upgraded technology.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current-market value, safety, and the Odyssey’s appealing driving feel, the 2022 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core Odyssey strengths.
