Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

The main trade-off is price: it costs more than several rivals, and the expert notes also point to that higher starting cost. Even so, the Sienna’s mix of efficiency, space, and safety makes it a strong fit if you want a minivan that leans into usefulness rather than flash.

Toyota’s hybrid setup is described as efficient and uncomplicated, and the battery pack carries a long warranty. That combination suggests a lower-risk ownership experience if you keep up with routine maintenance and buy a well-documented example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Sienna?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report, confirm maintenance records, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection. Focus on overall condition, especially signs of heavy family use, since minivans often see a lot of daily wear.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the LE to the Platinum, with the Woodland Edition aimed at buyers who want a more adventurous look. Base models are the most affordable, but higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment.
• Powertrain: The Sienna uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid setup with two electric motors, and all-wheel drive is available across the lineup. The hybrid system is tuned for efficiency, and the CVT helps keep power delivery smooth.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition. Toyota’s Star Safety System is also standard.
• Infotainment: A 9-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, one USB media port, and six USB charging ports. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 36 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 36 mpg combined, while AWD models are rated at 35 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, Woodland Edition.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and the core hybrid minivan experience. It gives you the standard safety suite, the 9-inch touchscreen, and the practical cabin layout without pushing the budget too far.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience while staying below the upper luxury trims. It’s a smart middle ground if you want a nicer daily driver without paying for the top-end equipment.
• XSE: Choose this if you want a sportier look and a more upscale feel than the LE or XLE. It sits above the mainstream trims and is a good fit if style matters as much as utility.
• Limited: This trim is for you if you want a more premium family hauler with more available tech and comfort features. It makes sense if you plan to keep the Sienna for a long time and want a richer cabin experience.
• Woodland Edition: This is the trim to consider if you want the adventurous styling and AWD-only setup called out in the data. It’s the most distinctive choice if your priorities lean toward a more rugged appearance.
• Platinum: This is the top-end choice if you want the most upscale Sienna experience, including the highest level of available tech and convenience features. It suits buyers who want the most fully equipped version.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, so you get the core driver-assistance package even on the base trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Sienna?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,572 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.78% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $36,091, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Sienna's resale value?

The current average of $36,091 sits slightly below last year's $38,304.

That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and documentation rather than assuming prices will rebound quickly.

Because the Sienna has strong family appeal and a hybrid-only identity, well-kept examples should remain attractive to used buyers. Clean history and strong maintenance records will matter even more if you want to protect value later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna safe?

The 2022 Toyota Sienna earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition. Toyota’s Star Safety System is also standard, adding stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and electronic brake-force distribution.

The safety story is especially strong here, but you should still note that the Sienna’s safety equipment is spread across the lineup rather than concentrated in higher trims. That means the core protection is already built in, which is a plus for used buyers.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.78% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 keeps the hybrid-only formula and adds the Woodland trim for adventurous families.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $34,094, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $36,091 average.
• It introduced the redesigned hybrid Sienna and emphasizes efficiency and comfort.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $40,492, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $36,091 average.
• It keeps the hybrid formula and leans into practicality with strong cargo space.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, efficiency, and safety, the 2022 is the sweet spot. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 can save you money while keeping the core hybrid Sienna experience.
