overall

Summary
With 1,888 currently listed for sale and an average price of $38,399, 36.7% of 2021 Toyota Tundra listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota Tundra 4.55 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Tundra stands out as a full-size pickup that leans on proven fundamentals rather than chasing the newest trends. Its design and underpinnings date back to the mid-2000s, so it is clearly an older truck in a segment that is constantly being updated. Even so, Toyota kept it relevant with modern infotainment and safety technologies, which helps offset some of its age. That combination gives the Tundra a distinctive appeal for buyers who want a straightforward truck with a long-running formula.
It also brings several practical strengths to the table. The Tundra is described as powerful, spacious, and capable of good towing, and owners frequently praise its roomy cabin, smooth ride, comfort, reliability, and solid construction. Those traits make it appealing to shoppers who value comfort and durability as much as work-ready capability. The tradeoffs are just as clear: it has limited bed and cab configurations, poor fuel economy, and technology that can feel outdated compared with newer rivals.

Smooth ride, very quite, and comfortable. We love it and won’t be buying but a Toyota Tundra from now on; I just wish that I checked into them sooner, my wife had been wanting one for years. Yes, it is a good value. Only thing missing on mine is a hard cover camper for the bed. But I plan on getting that taken care of. Compared to my last truck, 1500 Ram has nothing on this truck. This truck has more in its extras, smoother and quiter ride, and it looks better.

Yes — the 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a 4.55/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its spacious cabin, powerful performance, smooth ride, comfort, reliability, and solid construction. That lines up with the truck’s straightforward, proven approach, which should appeal to you if you want a full-size pickup that prioritizes durability and everyday usability over the newest trends. The main trade-offs are limited bed and cab configurations, poor fuel economy, and technology that can feel outdated compared with newer rivals. Even so, the market still shows 37.6% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.55/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights reliability, dependability, and a truck that many drivers feel they can count on over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Tundra’s rugged, proven formula and its long-running durability-focused design. Toyota’s standard maintenance coverage adds another ownership-friendly touch, and the truck’s straightforward mechanical setup should help keep long-term ownership risk manageable for used buyers who stay on top of maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?
At 72.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, frame areas, and signs of prior repair quality. Because this truck is often bought for work and towing, it also makes sense to focus on wear items, cabin condition, and evidence of hard use. If you’re comparing multiple listings, put the cleanest history and best-maintained example at the top of your list.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SR is the most basic version, with halogen headlights with LED accents, 18-inch steel wheels, manual climate control, cloth seating, and an easy lift-and-lower tailgate. The SR5 adds power-adjustable front seats and a larger touchscreen, while the Limited brings a more upscale feel with leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The TRD Pro adds off-road hardware, and the Platinum and 1794 Edition focus on more premium interior and exterior touches.
- Powertrain: You get Toyota’s 5.7-liter V8 with 391 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and four-wheel drive with low range is available. The truck is described as strong off the line and comfortable at highway speeds, but its older transmission design trails newer rivals in gear count and efficiency.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Optional features include front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Every Tundra also comes with eight airbags, tire pressure monitoring, trailer sway control, and an integrated trailer brake controller.
- Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, multiple USB ports, and a WiFi hotspot trial. An available 8-inch touchscreen adds navigation and is available with Amazon Alexa. The layout is simple and easy to use, with hard buttons that make operation more intuitive.
- Fuel efficiency: Rear-wheel-drive models return 13 mpg city, 17 highway, 15 combined, while four-wheel-drive versions return 13 mpg city, 17 highway, 14 combined.
Which 2021 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Tundra is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, TRD Pro, Platinum, and 1794 Edition.
Here's the short version:
- SR: This is the value-focused starting point, but it is also the most basic. You get the essentials, including cloth seating, manual climate control, and steel wheels, so it makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the nicer convenience and comfort upgrades found higher up.
- SR5: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds power-adjustable front seats and a larger touchscreen without jumping all the way to the pricier luxury-oriented trims. If you want a more livable daily driver while keeping costs in check, this is the trim to target.
- Limited: This is the sweet spot if you want the most complete mix of comfort and equipment. It adds leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a 10-way power driver’s seat, and larger wheels, making it the trim that most clearly reduces the need to add options.
- TRD Pro: This is the one to choose if you want the most rugged setup. It adds a 2-inch lift, Fox off-road shock absorbers, all-terrain tires, beefed-up skid plates, and a TRD exhaust, so it suits buyers who want the most trail-ready version in the lineup.
- Platinum: This trim leans into luxury with heated-and-ventilated front seats, premium interior trim, and upscale exterior details. It makes sense if you want a more polished cabin and don’t mind paying for it.
- 1794 Edition: This trim largely mirrors the Platinum’s content but adds its own unique visual and interior touches. It’s the right pick if you want the premium equipment with a more distinctive look and feel.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard across the lineup, so even the base trim gets the core driver-assistance suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?
This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,883 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 72.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $36,593, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Tundra's resale value?
The current average of $38,381 sits slightly below last year's $38,549.
That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A truck that holds close to its prior-year value usually gives future sellers a more predictable exit point. The current pricing also suggests buyers still see enough value in the Tundra’s proven formula to keep demand steady.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.55/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra safe?
The 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That gives you a strong baseline of driver assistance even on lower trims. Optional blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors can add more confidence if you want extra help in tight spaces. The main caveat is that some of those helpful features are optional rather than standard.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 72.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.55/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 keeps the proven V8 formula while adding modern infotainment and standard safety tech.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $36,822, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $38,381 average.
- It emphasizes reliability above all else.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $38,067, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $38,381 average.
- It brings a full redesign with major updates across the lineup.
The bottom line: If you want the proven V8-era Tundra with modern tech and a stable used market, the 2021 is the most balanced choice. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value play; if you want the newer redesign, the 2022 is the path to take.
