CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Toyota Sienna
overall

Summary
With 127 currently listed for sale near Washington, DC and an average price of $22,308, 22.8% of 2018 Toyota Siennas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Toyota Sienna 4.4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
81.9% of 2018 Sienna models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Toyota Sienna stands out as a minivan that makes family hauling easier, especially for buyers who need all-wheel drive. It is presented as a practical choice for moving kids and cargo, and the test-drive commentary makes clear that this is the kind of vehicle that fits road trips, sporting gear, and home-improvement runs. That same commentary also notes a limitation: among minivans, the 2018 Toyota Sienna is not the best choice unless all-wheel drive is a priority.
What also helps define the 2018 Toyota Sienna is its broad appeal as a family vehicle with a reputation for spaciousness and reliability. The user feedback reinforces that it is valued for those traits, along with its stylish design and all-wheel drive capability. At the same time, some owners were disappointed by the lack of features such as navigation and hands-free technology, and a few felt the price was too high for what it offered.

We have owned Siennas for 14 years, and they are wonderful! Super dependable, low maintenance expenses as it never has an issue (basically just change the oil and rotate the tires). By the way, were retired and still love it!

Is the 2018 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Generally — 4.4/5 from owners and 7.17/10 from experts point to a well-liked minivan with broad family appeal. The review summary repeatedly highlights spaciousness, reliability, stylish design, and all-wheel drive capability, which fits the Sienna’s role as a practical people-mover for road trips, sporting gear, and home-improvement runs. The overview also makes clear that this model is especially compelling if you want all-wheel drive, while noting that it is less compelling if AWD is not a priority. With 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The review summary emphasizes reliability, and it also points to the Sienna as a practical, dependable choice that many drivers feel good about living with over time. The expert commentary reinforces that theme by describing the Sienna as having a deserved reputation for dependability, and the cost-effectiveness notes add that Toyota includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the vehicle’s condition and maintenance history match that reputation.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Toyota Sienna?
At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that safety or driver-assistance equipment may not be functioning as intended. Because this model is often bought for family duty, it is worth paying extra attention to cabin condition, seat wear, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base L trim gets a Scout connected navigation system and more USB ports, while all trims except the L add Safety Connect subscription services and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The SE adds a sport-tuned look and feel, and the Limited can be equipped with a premium JBL sound system and a 360-degree surround-view monitor.
- Powertrain: The Sienna uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 296 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic. AWD is available only on LE, XLE, and Limited trims.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available on the SE and standard on XLE and Limited.
- Infotainment: Every version gets upgraded infotainment, and the base L includes Scout connected navigation and more USB ports. All trims except the L have Safety Connect and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle returned 18.9 mpg on the test loop, versus an EPA estimate of 22 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2018 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2018 Toyota Sienna is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, SE, XLE, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- L: This is the entry point, and it still gets upgraded infotainment with Scout connected navigation and more USB ports. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Sienna, but it is the least equipped version and misses some of the convenience and connectivity features found higher up.
- LE: This is the first trim that can add AWD, so it is the one to target if all-wheel drive is your main reason for shopping the Sienna. It also sits in the sweet spot for buyers who want the core family-hauling strengths without moving all the way to the pricier trims.
- SE: This trim adds the sportier appearance and tuning, including unique styling details and sport-tuned steering and suspension. It is the right pick if you want the most distinctive driving character in the lineup, and it can also be equipped with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
- XLE: This is the better-equipped family choice if you want more convenience and safety features, since blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard here. It is a strong pick for shoppers who want a more complete daily-driver setup without going all the way to the top trim.
- Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with available premium audio and a surround-view monitor on the Premium Package. Choose it if you want the most upscale Sienna experience and the broadest equipment list.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on XLE and Limited.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the best-priced examples.
- Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,113 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.55% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,450, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $21,923 sits slightly below last year's $22,267.
That kind of price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can work against a future seller if you buy high and try to resell soon. On the other hand, the softer pricing may help you enter at a more favorable point, which can reduce the amount of value you need to recover later. Because the Sienna has strong owner satisfaction and a reputation for dependability, demand should remain reasonably steady if you keep the vehicle in good condition.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Toyota Sienna safe?
The 2018 Toyota Sienna does not earn a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, and it gets an Acceptable result in the driver’s-side small overlap frontal crash test. It also earns a four-star frontal-impact rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Safety Connect is included on most versions, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on the SE and standard on XLE and Limited. The main caveat is that the crash-test results trail some rivals, so safety-conscious shoppers should weigh the Sienna’s standard driver-assistance tech against its weaker test performance.
Should I buy a 2018 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 model adds standard Toyota Safety Sense, making it a better-equipped choice than earlier versions in this generation.
The bottom line: If you want a Sienna with standard driver-assistance tech and a strong owner-satisfaction profile, the 2018 is the better target. If price is your top priority, you can still shop nearby years, but the 2018’s combination of softened pricing and added safety equipment makes it the more balanced buy for most shoppers.
