The features are great especially the right blind spot display. This car is a great value. The only thing missing is leather seats. I can’t compare it to any other models since this one is a special edition.

Reviewed a 2016 Toyota Sienna on Oct 14, 2020
We looked at the Honda and Toyota minivans. We ended up purchasing the Sienna. It is a great vehicle, great value, very comfortable. Prior to purchasing the vehicle the two negative reviews I found were the engine is loud when accelerating and the car seats are hard to get in and out. I did not even notice the engine noise so that is a non-issue for me but the car seats were a little tricky. We leave our car seats in for extended periods of time (only take out to clean) so its really not a big deal. If we took them out every day I could see how this would be annoying but the fact that they essentially live in the car I really dont care. All the extra features are really nice too, automatic doors with buttons on the key fob, build in sun screens, electronics are really nice and responsive, the interior space and head room is massive. We really enjoy this vehicle and will have it for a long time.

| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,290 |
| Year-Round Low | $16,192.39 |
| Year-Round High | $17,980.29 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,505 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.23% |
Prices have softened 1.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,085 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $16,192.39, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2016 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.67/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.
Drivers consistently praise the Sienna for its comfort, spaciousness, and family-friendly versatility. The review summary also highlights strong value, especially in the more luxurious limited editions, along with a well-liked sound system and interior design.
For you, that means this model year makes the most sense if you want a minivan that prioritizes cabin space, everyday usability, and a feature-rich feel. The market also shows 27.9% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free for many owners, with comfort and value reinforcing that impression. The expert evaluation also describes the Sienna as a long-running class leader for reliability, even while noting that recent testing showed a slight dip after the refresh.
The performance write-up reinforces that sense of durability by emphasizing the same proven powertrain across the lineup, which can be a plus for long-term ownership confidence. The cost-effectiveness notes also mention a recall on front seatbelts for this model year, so a used example should be checked carefully for completed recall work and overall maintenance history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Sienna?
At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, interior wear, and any evidence that safety equipment or electronics were repaired after a collision.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base L trim includes automatic headlights, windshield-wiper heaters, tri-zone automatic climate control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a rear-view camera in a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and Siri Eyes Free. The LE adds heated side mirrors, power-sliding doors, an 8-way power driver’s seat, an upgraded stereo with HD and satellite radio, a 7-inch touchscreen, privacy glass, body-color trim, and Scout GPS Link app compatibility. The SE adds a stiffer sport suspension, tighter steering ratio, 19-inch wheels, a power liftgate, leather upholstery and steering wheel, heated front seats, and sport styling details. The XLE shifts away from the sport setup and adds fake wood trim, a 4-way power passenger seat, power rear quarter windows, and keyless entry and ignition. The Limited adds premium leather, a heated steering wheel, navigation, a 10-speaker JBL audio system, sunroofs, parking sensors front and back, auto power-folding mirrors, and LED running lights.
- Powertrain: Every Sienna uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Output is 266 hp and 245 lb-ft of torque, with EPA-estimated fuel economy of 18 mpg city and 25 highway for FWD models and 16/23 for AWD.
- Safety package: The available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise, and forward-collision warning. Some features are packaged or optional rather than standard, and the Advanced Technology package is not offered on AWD Siennas.
- Infotainment: Base models use a 6.1-inch touchscreen, while higher trims move to a 7.0-inch screen and enhanced connectivity. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto are not mentioned, and the rear entertainment system with Driver Easy Speak is a standout family feature.
- Fuel efficiency: FWD versions are rated at 18 mpg city, 25 highway, and 21 combined. AWD versions are rated at 16 mpg city, 23 highway, and 19 combined.
Which 2016 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2016 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: L, LE, SE, SE Premium, XLE, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The L gives you a strong feature set, but it lacks the richer materials, larger touchscreen, and convenience upgrades found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The LE is the best value pick if you want meaningful upgrades like power-sliding doors, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and the larger touchscreen without jumping into pricier luxury territory.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the most upscale choice, with premium leather, a heated steering wheel, navigation, a JBL audio system, and parking sensors front and back.
- Off-road trim: None of the trims are aimed at off-road use, so there’s no daily-driver caution to flag here.
The safety package note to keep in mind is that blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise, and forward-collision warning are available, but some are tied to packages or specific trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota Sienna?
The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.
- Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,085 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.23% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,192.39, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $17,290 sits slightly below last year's $17,505.
That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, the current pricing trend implies that value retention is still decent, but not immune to broader market pressure.
The Sienna’s strong owner satisfaction and family-friendly reputation should continue to support demand. If you maintain it well and keep a clean history, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Toyota Sienna safe?
Both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have awarded their top scores overall for the Sienna, with only the NHTSA’s total frontal crash and the IIHS’s small overlap frontal-crash tests receiving the second-highest ratings.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The available safety suite includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise, and forward-collision warning. You should also note that some of these features are optional or package-dependent rather than standard across the lineup.
The crash-test summary is strong overall, but the frontal-crash caveat is worth keeping in mind when you compare used examples and trim levels.
Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.23% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The addition of Siri Eyes Free and the broad feature set make this year especially appealing for family use.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $14,921, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $17,290 average.
- It offers strong performance, a spacious interior, and family-friendly features.
The bottom line: If you want the newer year with a softer price trend, strong owner satisfaction, and a broad feature set, the 2016 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core Sienna strengths.
