How much does the 2018 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 1,882 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2018 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Ford Mustang earns a 4.61/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its power, sporty design, and enjoyable driving experience, and they also call out the fast acceleration and smooth ride. The convertible version is especially appealing if you want a car that feels more relaxed for leisure driving. In the context of the Mustang’s role as a more sophisticated pony car that blends mainstream and premium cues, those strengths make it a strong fit if you want style and performance in one package.

With 29.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to find a competitive price if you shop carefully.

Is the 2018 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.61/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a car that feels fun, stylish, and affordable, with power and enjoyable driving experience coming through as recurring positives. The expert review also emphasizes that the Mustang delivers performance with a level of sophistication that helps it feel more polished than a bare-bones muscle car. The cost-effectiveness review adds that the EcoBoost version can deliver much of the Mustang experience at a lower price point, which supports the idea that the model can be a sensible long-term choice if you buy the right version.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the car’s core appeal and more about choosing a well-kept example, since condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford Mustang?

At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has performance upgrades or a modified suspension, exhaust, or transmission setup. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the car’s equipment matches the listing details. If you’re shopping a Mustang that’s been driven enthusiastically, it’s worth paying extra attention to wear items and evidence of track use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GT Premium coupe sits at the higher end of the range and adds higher-quality cabin materials, exposed contrast stitching, and aluminum carbon-pattern trim, while the Premium trim is the path to leather seats. Base-trim cars are more stripped down, so you should compare interior finish and comfort equipment carefully if you want a more upscale feel.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a turbocharged 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine and a V8 GT, with the GT’s 5.0-liter V8 making 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The standard manual gearbox is a 6-speed, while the 10-speed automatic adds adaptive shift logic and extra driving modes.
• Safety package: The car includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. The lane-keeping assist system can detract from driving enjoyment, but it can be switched off.
• Infotainment: You get a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, Sync 3 infotainment, Track Apps, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Ford Sync Connect, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The system also includes volume and tuning knobs, though voice recognition can be frustrating at times.
• Fuel efficiency: The GT with the 10-speed automatic is rated at 19 miles per gallon in combined driving.

Which 2018 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford Mustang is offered in 2 trim levels: EcoBoost and GT.

Here's the short version:

• EcoBoost: This is the best-value choice if you want the Mustang’s style and driving character without paying for V8 power. The cost-effectiveness review specifically points to the EcoBoost as the real value play, and it can be paired with a Performance Package if you want more capability without jumping to GT pricing.
• GT: Choose this if you want the V8 experience, stronger straight-line performance, and the more serious hardware that comes with the GT’s higher-output setup. It’s the right pick if you care most about the Mustang’s performance identity and are willing to pay more for it.

The safety content notes that the car’s driver-assistance features are configurable and performance-calibrated, but the lane-keeping assist system may be worth testing before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford Mustang?

This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you have enough inventory to shop around without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,882 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,234, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $22,361 sits slightly above last year's $22,167.

That small increase suggests the market has stayed stable rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that usually points to predictable pricing rather than a fast-depreciating or overheated market. If you keep the car in strong condition and maintain it well, you should be able to benefit from that steadier demand profile.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2018 Mustang earns an Acceptable rating from IIHS for small-overlap frontal-impact protection and Good ratings in other crash-test assessments, and it earns a five-star rating for rollover resistance from the federal government.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The car’s driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts. Most of these systems can be adjusted for sensitivity, and they’re tuned to work without false alarms during spirited driving. The main caveat is the lane-keeping assist system, which the review says can detract from driving enjoyment, though you can turn it off.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 update brings substantial mechanical and technological improvements, including a more sophisticated take on the Mustang formula.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of updated tech, improved performance, and stable pricing, the 2018 is the one to target first. If you’re mainly shopping on price, a nearby year may still make sense, but you should expect to give up some of the 2018’s refinements and then compare condition very carefully.
