CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Honda Civic

Summary
With 2,565 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,381.00, 29.1% of 2017 Honda Civics for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Honda Civic 4.75 / 5 stars.
46.7% of 2017 Civic models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Honda Civic stands out as a compact car that blends practicality, efficiency, and driving enjoyment in a way that helped make the nameplate so enduring. In the 10th generation, Honda gave the Civic a major step up in size, and the hatchback version added real utility through its liftback design and flat-folding rear seats. It also arrived with a strong mix of features for the class, including automatic climate control, a rear-view camera, a folding rear seat, and a 5-inch infotainment screen on the base LX. Buyers looking for a small car that feels more substantial than its footprint suggests will find a lot to like here.
What makes the 2017 model especially appealing is how much substance it offers without losing the Civic’s easygoing character. The hatchback came with two turbocharged powertrains, and the available 180-hp version gave it a more energetic personality. Honda also made Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available on EX and above, along with features such as blind-spot monitors, heated front and rear seats, navigation, and dual-zone automatic climate control. At the same time, the car’s reputation for good fuel economy, strong driving dynamics, and long-term value helps explain why it remained such a popular used choice.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The 2017 hatchback was part of the group that logged a high number of consumer complaints, with infotainment glitches, air conditioning condenser failures, and oil dilution in the 1.5-liter turbo among the concerns. The car also drew criticism for its styling, and some buyers may find that the base model’s acceleration is not especially strong. Even so, the 2017 Honda Civic remains a compelling used compact because it combines everyday usefulness with the kind of efficiency and handling that many rivals struggle to match.

Great value for the money. Practical but has all the safety and phone features we wanted. I also looked at Mazda 3 and the Corolla; this is better looking. Bigger on the inside than I expected. The 2.0 liter is not very fast, but adequate with good gas mileage.

Prices have softened 2.51% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 2,606 listings available, you have a solid pool of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $14,868.97, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Honda Civic earns a 4.75/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability, great gas mileage, and enjoyable features, and many also highlight its impressive handling and spacious interior. That makes it a strong fit if you want a compact car that feels practical for daily driving without giving up driving enjoyment. With 23.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes reliability, dependable day-to-day use, and a car you can count on over time. That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and condition, because long-term ownership risk depends heavily on how each individual car was cared for.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Civic?
At 46.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced listing. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and signs of past repairs rather than relying on price alone.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Civic?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 23.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,606 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.51% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 46.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,868.97, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $15,429 sits slightly below last year's $15,827.
That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the Civic still has broad appeal, but resale strength will depend on keeping mileage, condition, and history in good shape. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 23.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 46.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.51% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $13,949, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,429 average.
- It feels more polished and modern than earlier Civics.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around market position, the 2017 is the better primary target because it combines solid owner satisfaction with a meaningful inventory base and softer pricing. If your budget is tighter, the 2016 is the better secondary path, especially if you want to spend less upfront while still getting a Civic with strong appeal.
