CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Honda Civic

Summary
With 2,735 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,435.00, 28.8% of 2017 Honda Civics for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Honda Civic 4.75 / 5 stars.
48.5% of 2017 Civic models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Honda Civic stands out as a compact car that blends practicality, efficiency, and driving enjoyment in a way that helped make the nameplate so enduring. In the 10th generation, Honda gave the Civic a major step up in size, and the hatchback version added real utility through its liftback design and flat-folding rear seats. It also arrived with a strong mix of features for the class, including automatic climate control, a rear-view camera, a folding rear seat, and a 5-inch infotainment screen on the base LX. Buyers looking for a small car that feels more substantial than its footprint suggests will find a lot to like here.
What makes the 2017 model especially appealing is how much substance it offers without losing the Civic’s easygoing character. The hatchback came with two turbocharged powertrains, and the available 180-hp version gave it a more energetic personality. Honda also made Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available on EX and above, along with features such as blind-spot monitors, heated front and rear seats, navigation, and dual-zone automatic climate control. At the same time, the car’s reputation for good fuel economy, strong driving dynamics, and long-term value helps explain why it remained such a popular used choice.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The 2017 hatchback was part of the group that logged a high number of consumer complaints, with infotainment glitches, air conditioning condenser failures, and oil dilution in the 1.5-liter turbo among the concerns. The car also drew criticism for its styling, and some buyers may find that the base model’s acceleration is not especially strong. Even so, the 2017 Honda Civic remains a compelling used compact because it combines everyday usefulness with the kind of efficiency and handling that many rivals struggle to match.

Great value for the money. Practical but has all the safety and phone features we wanted. I also looked at Mazda 3 and the Corolla; this is better looking. Bigger on the inside than I expected. The 2.0 liter is not very fast, but adequate with good gas mileage.

2017 Honda Civic Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2017 Honda Civic prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2017 Honda Civic cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,435 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,858.30 |
| Year-Round High | $15,926.51 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,878 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.79% |
Prices have softened 2.79% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,744 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $14,858.30, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Honda Civic earns a 4.75/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners repeatedly praise its reliability, great gas mileage, and enjoyable features. You also see consistent praise for its impressive handling and spacious interior, which makes it a practical fit for daily driving. For you, that means this model year works especially well if you want a compact car that balances value, efficiency, and everyday usability. 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2017 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes reliability, dependable ownership, and a trouble-free experience over time. That kind of recurring praise matters if you want a used car you can count on for daily commuting and longer-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by prior use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Civic?
At 48.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus your condition check on signs of past repairs, uneven wear, and any issues that could affect long-term ownership costs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Civic?
This is a moderate market, so you can buy now if the right car appears, but selective shoppers still have room to wait for a better match.
- Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,744 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.79% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 48.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,858.30, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $15,435 sits slightly below last year's $15,878.
That softer pricing suggests the model is still competitive in the used market, but it also means future sellers may not see strong short-term appreciation. If you buy at a fair price and keep the car in good condition, you should be better positioned to preserve value when it is time to sell. Strong owner satisfaction also helps keep demand steady among used shoppers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 48.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.79% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $14,093, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $15,435 average.
- It offers a more modern feel with upgraded refinement and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger overall market balance of value, owner satisfaction, and current inventory, the 2017 is the better primary target. If your budget is tighter and you want to spend less upfront, the 2016 is the smarter secondary path.
