cold weather dont start

Asked by Benjojo Feb 05, 2019 at 02:38 PM about the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Since the start of the cold weather below -15C the remote of the car does
not work , the engine will start for 3 second and cut , I go in and press the
button and all is fine.It look like when the battery temperature is too low the
logic link to the remote start and hybrid battery does not allow it to work, I
have notice the red alert that battery are cold and wont deliver power...
seem like a software problem  any idea?

Wait for warmer weather and all these things will probably take care of themselves. Welcome to the reality that all batteries lose power in the cold. Hybrids are sold on hype, not real world conditions. Garage it if you can.

I dont agree , the engine start with no problem even at -25C the snag is the remote versus the battery, so it is what I think a software problem , the remote start logic look at the different parameter including the temperature of the battery , in this case it must be set to prevent start remote at that low temperature... wait till it is warm , you dont know much about hybrid or electrical car sorry for you

check this link, someone in Quebec managed to fix this with the help from his dealer, it's a software fix but seems nobody in the dealerships knows about it, at least not in Toronto area. https://www.accordxclub.com/threads/remote-start-is-not-working.1986/

Yes I know it is me that got it fix , Honda did a patch for the software , it work perfectly all winter.

Hi Benjojo, did you contact Honda Canada directly? I've been fighting this with both Honda Canada and dealerships and no luck, Honda Canada asked me to do a diagnose at a dealership, and the dealership says they can't do the diagnose if they can't recreate the scenario, but I can't control the weather!! This has become an infinite loop, I posted the link on Honda Canada's youtube page and also sent the link to the dealership, they didn't even bother to take a look, and the dealer denies the existence of the software patch and gave me some BS reason about "protecting the battery".
