Why it stands out
The 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid stands out as a standard-bearer in the midsize sedan segment, and Honda’s freshening for this year is aimed at keeping it near the top of its class. It is presented as the hybrid version of a family-sized four-door, which gives it added appeal for buyers who want a practical sedan with a stronger efficiency focus. Its styling is a clear plus, and its spacious cabin helps reinforce its role as a mainstream family car rather than a niche choice.
The Accord Hybrid’s strengths are straightforward: it is stylish, fuel-efficient, and roomy. Those qualities make it easy to recommend to shoppers who still want a sedan that feels substantial and useful. The tradeoffs are also clear, with all-wheel drive not available and technology described as outdated. Even so, the 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid remains compelling because it combines everyday practicality with the kind of broad competence that keeps it competitive in a crowded segment.

I had an identical Honda Accord Hybrid that was totaled when someone ran into me so I was in the market for a car just like it, since it was the best car I have ever had. And yes, an excellent value. These models have held their value better than almost any other car.

I bought this Accord hybrid because I trust Honda quality and the hybrid version was overall in my opinion superior to the other 2 makes that I was considering. So far I am happy with it, while I am recognizing a small compromises I had to make. Lets hope it will be as reliable as I expect it to be.

The 2021 Accord Hybrid is positioned as a practical family sedan with a roomy cabin, stylish design, and a clear efficiency focus, and Honda’s updates for this year were aimed at keeping it near the top of the midsize-sedan class. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.
The main trade-offs are that all-wheel drive is not available and the technology is described as outdated. Even so, the car’s broad competence, strong everyday usefulness, and hybrid efficiency make it easy to consider if you want a mainstream sedan that still feels substantial.
31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to find a competitive example.
Is the 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid reliable?
Owners rate it 4.25/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2021 Accord Hybrid is described as a terrific sedan with few downsides, and Honda’s refined two-motor hybrid system is presented as smooth, efficient, and better than the previous year’s version. The powertrain’s improved throttle response and more natural sound and feel also point to a well-sorted setup.
Honda also notes that the hybrid system uses an electronic continuously variable transmission arrangement and that the car delivers effortlessly good fuel economy. On the ownership side, the main caution is that Honda is stingy with warranty coverage and does not offer much in the way of freebies, so long-term ownership risk is more about standard wear and maintenance than unusual complexity.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid?
At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with prior bodywork. Focus on overall condition, signs of repair quality, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you expect. Because the Accord Hybrid’s appeal depends on its balance of efficiency, comfort, and technology, you want to make sure those systems are working as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base model gets the 8-inch touchscreen and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while EX adds wireless smartphone mirroring, wireless charging, and rear-seat quick-charge USB ports. EX-L adds a premium sound system, and Touring adds navigation, HondaLink subscription services, and a WiFi hotspot.
- Powertrain: The hybrid system pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with electric drive hardware for 212 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. Honda says it can reach 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, and most trims return 48 mpg in combined driving.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is the driver-assistance suite, with refinements to adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. Standard equipment also includes a rear-seat reminder and rear seatbelt reminder system, while Touring adds low-speed braking control and front and rear automatic emergency braking for parking situations.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses an 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every version, wireless connectivity arrives on EX, and Touring adds navigation, HondaLink subscription services, and a WiFi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: Most trims return 48 mpg in combined driving, while Touring is rated at 43 mpg because of its larger wheels and tires.
Which 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid is offered in 4 trim levels: standard, EX, EX-L, and Touring.
Here's the short version:
- standard: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the 8-inch touchscreen plus standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you are not giving up the core tech experience. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the hybrid lineup.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds wireless smartphone mirroring, wireless charging, and rear-seat quick-charge USB ports without jumping all the way to the luxury-oriented upper trims.
- EX-L: Choose this if you want a premium sound system and are willing to pay more for a richer cabin experience.
- Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with navigation, HondaLink subscription services, a WiFi hotspot, and low-speed braking control. It also gets larger wheels and tires, but that trim trades some fuel efficiency for added equipment.
Honda also makes the LED headlights standard for every trim, with full LED lighting from EX trim up.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 585 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.43% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,859, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid's resale value?
The current average of $23,083 sits slightly below last year's $24,409.
That kind of price movement suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future sellers may face a softer resale environment than they would have a year ago. If you buy at a good price and keep the car in strong condition, you can help protect your value over time. The Accord Hybrid’s broad appeal and efficiency should continue to support demand, especially among shoppers looking for a practical midsize sedan.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.25/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid safe?
The 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid does not get a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS in the text provided, but Honda says the redesigned LED headlights were intended to help it earn that result.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist with refinements for smoother and more accurate operation. Standard equipment also includes a rear-seat reminder and rear seatbelt reminder system. Touring adds low-speed braking control and front and rear automatic emergency braking that works at speeds up to 6 mph for parking protection.
One caveat is that the system can feel intrusive, and the low-speed automatic braking may react too eagerly in some situations. That means you should pay close attention to how the driver-assistance features behave during your test drive.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.43% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- Honda’s 2021 updates focus on improved headlights, refined hybrid response, and stronger standard tech.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $22,105, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $23,083 average.
- It delivers efficiency, practicality, style, and performance at an affordable price.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2021 is the better target because it brings updated lighting, improved hybrid refinement, and solid market availability. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the value play and still gives you the core Accord Hybrid formula in a compelling package.
