Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The knocking noise only comes when the car is in stopping position.  Once I begin to drive again, the knocking noise stops.

Dear Vila-- The knocking sound you hear when your 1997 Hyundai is idling can be caused by a variety of problems or misadjustments. First, check your knock sensor. Check the timing by inspecting such components as points, timing belt or chain, and the distributor cap. Make sure your spark plugs are set for the proper firing order and there are no faulty wires anywhere in the engine that may be "arcing." Unless you are a good mechanic, it might be easiest to have a professional take a look at things. Good luck from Bovan.
