1994 Honda Civic Sedan with salvage title

I think we got screwed. We bought
a 1994 Honda Civic sedan with a
salvage title for $1000.The seller
did not furnish a smog cert. (we
are in Calif). It's costing more to
register, insure, smog etc. than we
paid for the car. Any advice?
