2009 Hyundai Elantra- Engine Seized- What to do?

Asked by Sidney Jun 14, 2020 at 02:31 AM about the 2009 Hyundai Elantra GL FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2009 Hyundai Elantra has 170K miles, and without any warning at all, after
being a basically good, problem-free car, the engine seized, and must be
replaced. I do mean there was absolutely NO warning at all—there were no
lights on that I was ignoring, no strange sounds, nothing. The Blue Book value
is only around $1200, and the cost to replace the engine with a used engine is
$2550, and I don’t know if it’s worth it. I don’t know what caused it to seize,
though, so how would I know a different engine wouldn’t also just seize up
again? Not sure what to do. My budget for a new used car is only around 5K,
so don’t know if I should get the engine replaced, or get another cheap,
potentially problem-ridden vehicle. Any advice, opinions, recommendations
would be greatly appreciated.

I would walk away from the Hyundai. Five grand is not much but if you shop around you should be able to find an older, low mile car (not Korean) that is reliable.

My 2013 Hyundai Sante Fe 2.0T AWD is consuming oil. I came across a Class Action suite against KIA and HMM to provide Life Time Engine Warranty for certain class Hyundai and Kia owners. Settlement was submitted for Class approval on May 7, 2020. For those that have posted a question about it here, go to your dealer and ask them to do an Oil Consumption Test and if your car is burning oil then Hyundai/KIA will replace your engine. Sell the Elantra for scrap and check out autotempest. Put in max price 5k and any other criteria you want but be aware the more criteria the less results. Look for cars with clean carfax with no accidents and the least amount of mileage no matter the year.

Ok I have 2013 Elantra disintegrated get any thing in mail how can I trust the dealership is going to be honest. Reference to answer about class action lawsuit.
