This car provides exceptional value and incredible features. I can’t think of anything it is missing. Great gas mileage. I would compare it to a Honda Accord with a lower price and better gas mileage.

Great car… no complaints; mileage/handling/tech features etc superb keeping in mind bang for buck cost vs. features. Have owned several Elantra’s over many years.

CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2023 Hyundai Elantra prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2023 Hyundai Elantra cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,710 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,707.73 |
| Year-Round High | $19,867.67 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,865 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −0.78% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
With 4,473 listings available, you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare before you buy. If you find a listing below $18,707.73, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — 4.88/5 owners’ rating points to strong satisfaction with this model year. The expert rating is 8.67/10, which supports that positive reception.
The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners repeatedly praise the Elantra for its fuel economy, safety features, and value for the price. They also like the stylish design and the tech features. The main trade-offs are interior quality and cabin noise, with some owners describing the materials as cheap and noting rattles.
That lines up with the broader use case here: you’re looking at a compact sedan that aims to give you efficiency, technology, and value in one package. With 32.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable, with praise centered on fuel economy, safety, and value. The expert evaluation also emphasizes calm, repeatable driving behavior and a composed, predictable ride, which are the kinds of traits that usually support confidence over time.
Hyundai’s ownership perks also help: every new Elantra comes with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and three years or 36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that interior wear, noise, and rattles may show up sooner than you’d like.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status is only a starting point. Prioritize a close inspection of the cabin, since owner feedback points to interior quality and noise concerns. A test drive should focus on rattles, trim fit, and how the car feels over rough pavement.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Elantra SE is the least expensive entry point, while the SEL and Limited add more upscale presentation. The SEL Convenience package and N Line also gain the 10.25-inch digital instrumentation panel and 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT/IVT and front-wheel drive. Hybrid versions deliver 50 mpg to 54 mpg in combined driving, while the N Line and Elantra N are the choices for more performance.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, a safe exit warning system, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Higher trims add cyclist detection, intersection turning assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and Highway Driving Assist.
- Infotainment: The available 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and infotainment displays are a major draw. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, connected services, dynamic voice recognition, navigation, and wireless smartphone charging, but CarPlay and Android Auto require a USB connection.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 33 mpg during evaluation, close to its official 34 mpg rating. Hybrid versions are the efficiency standouts, with combined ratings of 50 mpg to 54 mpg.
Which 2023 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2023 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 6 trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, Blue, N Line, and N.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE gives you the lowest entry price, but you miss out on the more upscale cabin presentation and the larger digital display setup found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL Convenience package is the value play if you want the 10.25-inch digital instrumentation panel and 10.25-inch touchscreen without jumping all the way to the top trims.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the best fit if you want the most upscale feel, with a cabin that looks and feels more premium than its price suggests, plus the full tech-rich experience.
- Off-road trim: The N Line is worth a look if you want more driving excitement, but it is not the best match for typical daily-driver priorities.
The safety package is broad across the lineup, but the higher trims add useful extras like blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and Highway Driving Assist.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Hyundai Elantra?
The market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,473 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,707.73, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $19,710 sits slightly below last year's $19,865.
That small decline suggests the market has stayed relatively stable rather than swinging sharply. For you, that means resale risk looks manageable if you buy at the right price and keep the car in good condition.
Strong value positioning also helps support future demand, especially for a compact sedan that buyers already associate with efficiency and technology. If you choose a well-kept example, you should have a better shot at holding onto value than you would with a less desirable, less efficient alternative.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2023 Elantra earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star frontal crash protection and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite is extensive: automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, a safe exit warning system, a driver monitoring system, and a rear-seat reminder system. Higher trims add cyclist detection, intersection turning assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and Highway Driving Assist.
The main caveat is that the IIHS did not carry forward the prior model year’s Top Safety Pick rating for 2023.
Should I buy a 2023 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 broadens availability of the 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and infotainment displays.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $17,771, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $19,710 average.
- It offers a fresh redesign with strong value and a roomy cabin.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $20,223, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $19,710 average.
- It adds a mild refresh with more style and standard equipment.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price stability, strong owner satisfaction, and broad feature content, the 2023 is the smart default. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play. If you want the newest styling and added standard equipment, it makes sense to stretch to the 2024.
