See more price trendsHow much does the 2022 Hyundai Elantra cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,771 |
| Year-Round Low | $17,060.67 |
| Year-Round High | $18,731.34 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,729 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.12% |
Prices have softened 5.12% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 2,963 listings available, you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $17,060.67, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 4.57/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.67/10.
The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its excellent value, fuel efficiency, safety features, and stylish design. The roomy cabin and generous feature content also come through as recurring positives.
The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and some interior design choices that not every driver likes. The overview also points to a practical compact sedan that works well for small families and budget-conscious shoppers.
With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback emphasizes value, an impressive warranty, and a car that feels dependable enough to recommend for everyday use. The review summary also points to fuel efficiency and safety as reasons owners feel confident living with it over time.
The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by highlighting top-notch product quality and an industry-leading warranty. It also notes three years of complimentary maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the overall package and more about choosing a well-kept example with a clean history and consistent maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
Start with the history report, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the car has any signs of prior damage, uneven wear, or missing service records. You should also pay close attention to cabin condition, seat comfort, and whether the car’s features work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited each bring a different mix of style and equipment, and the base trim leaves out some of the richer tech and convenience features.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque with a CVT and front-wheel drive; it is adequate, but it can feel short on power under hard acceleration. The N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, while the hybrid setup is tuned for efficiency.
- Safety package: SmartSense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. Higher trims add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.
- Infotainment: The base setup uses an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while Limited trims step up to a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, a digital instrument cluster, and wireless device charging. The larger screen uses wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA combined fuel economy ranges from 37 mpg on the SE to 28 mpg on the N Line with manual transmission, or 31 mpg with the DCT. The hybrid reaches 54 mpg in Blue form and 50 mpg in Limited form.
Which 2022 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE gives you strong value, but it skips some of the richer convenience and premium tech found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL is the best balance if you want more features without jumping to the pricier upper trims.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the most upscale choice, with the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, a Bose audio system, a digital instrument cluster, and wireless charging.
- Off-road trim: The N Line is the enthusiast pick, but its sport seats can be less comfortable on long drives.
The lower-level SE, SEL, and N Line trims with halogen headlights received a Marginal IIHS headlight rating, while the Limited’s LED headlights earned a Good rating.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting deep distress pricing across the board.
- Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,963 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.12% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 79.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,060.67, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $17,771 sits slightly below last year's $18,729.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current softness may limit near-term upside, but it also means you are starting from a lower acquisition cost.
Strong value, broad feature content, and efficient ownership costs can help keep demand steady among used-car shoppers. A well-kept example with the right trim and clean history should remain appealing when it is time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra gets five-star overall crash protection from NHTSA, with four-star front crash protection and five-star side crash protection and rollover resistance ratings. IIHS gave it top Good ratings in all six of its individual crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard SmartSense suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. It also includes driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder system, and Safe Exit Warning.
Higher trims add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.12% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong value, excellent fuel economy, and top-tier safety features.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $16,371, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,771 average.
- It introduced the redesign and brought a bold new look with a roomy cabin.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $19,710, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,771 average.
- It adds a more polished tech-and-efficiency package with broad appeal.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2022 if you want the best mix of price, safety, and features. If you are focused on saving money, the 2021 is the value play; if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling alternative, the 2023 is the next step up.
