The 2022 Hyundai Elantra stands out as a value-focused compact sedan with a stylish exterior design and a roomy cabin. Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to excellent value, an impressive warranty, and a feature-rich ownership experience, while also emphasizing fuel efficiency and safety. That combination usually matters most when you want a car you can count on over time.
The expert evaluation also supports that dependability-minded view by highlighting top-notch product quality and an industry-leading warranty. On the ownership side, the included maintenance coverage helps reduce early running costs.
For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is less about durability and more about whether the specific car was maintained well and still feels comfortable to live with.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re shopping a higher-mileage example or one with incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, because comfort and refinement are part of the ownership equation here.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited each bring different equipment levels, and the base trim leaves out some of the nicer tech and convenience features you’ll find higher up the range.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque with a CVT and front-wheel drive, while the N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft; the standard setup is adequate, but it can feel short on power under hard acceleration.
- Safety package: SmartSense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance, plus driver-attention warning, automatic high beams, rear-seat reminder, and Safe Exit Warning; higher trims add features such as intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.
- Infotainment: The base setup uses an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, HD Radio, a rearview camera, and four speakers; SEL, Hybrid Blue, and N Line add two speakers, satellite radio, and Blue Link, while Limited trims upgrade to a 10.25-inch screen with navigation, wireless charging, and a digital instrument cluster, though CarPlay and Android Auto are wired on that setup.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA combined fuel economy ranges from 37 mpg in the SE to 28 mpg in the N Line with manual transmission, while the Hybrid Blue reaches 54 mpg and the Hybrid Limited returns 50 mpg.
Which 2022 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and still want a strong safety and tech package, including the standard 8-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and the core SmartSense driver-assistance suite.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more speakers, satellite radio, Blue Link connected services, and access to useful options while staying below the sportier and more expensive trims.
- N Line: Choose this if you want the most engaging driving experience in the standard gas lineup, with the turbocharged engine, sport-tuned suspension, larger brakes, and a more athletic cabin.
- Limited: Pick this if you want the most upscale standard equipment, including the 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, Bose audio, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and the most complete feature set.
The safety package is strongest as you move up the range, since higher trims unlock additional driver-assistance features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.
- Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,846 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.46% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,046.34, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $17,270 sits slightly below last year's $18,463.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you pay close to the current average, you may have less room for appreciation later, but the model’s broad appeal should still support demand.
Its strong value story, fuel efficiency, and feature-rich reputation should help it remain attractive to used buyers. The biggest factor for resale will be condition, trim, and how well the car has been maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra safe?
It earns five-star ratings for overall crash protection from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for front crash protection and five-star ratings for side crash protection and rollover resistance. The IIHS gave it top Good ratings in all six of its individual crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard SmartSense suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. It also adds driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder system, and Safe Exit Warning.
Higher trims make features such as intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist available. One caveat is that the lower-level SE, SEL, and N Line trims with halogen headlights received a Marginal IIHS headlight rating, while the Limited’s LED headlights earned Good.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.46% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong safety tech, excellent fuel economy, and a roomy cabin at a bargain price.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $16,183, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,270 average.
- It offers a redesigned, more polished compact sedan with strong value and a comfortable everyday feel.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $19,381, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,270 average.
- It broadens the lineup with roomy, efficient, and tech-forward choices across more buyer needs.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, efficiency, and features, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while still delivering much of the same appeal. If you want to spend more for a newer-year alternative, the 2023 is worth a look, but you’ll pay a premium for it.
