Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra stands out in the compact sedan market due to its striking design and impressive value. Following a significant redesign in 2021, the Elantra boasts a bold exterior that combines a longer wheelbase and a lower roofline, giving it a sporty four-door-coupe silhouette. Inside, the cabin is spacious and equipped with advanced technology, including an 8-inch touchscreen and a suite of safety features that come standard. The Elantra is available in multiple trims, including the fuel-efficient Hybrid and the sportier N Line, catering to a wide range of buyers. While some may find the base engine underwhelming and the seats less comfortable for long drives, the overall package offers a compelling blend of style, efficiency, and safety, making it a top choice for small families and commuters alike.

| Year-Round High | $18,652.83 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,652 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.87% |
Prices have softened 5.87% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,845 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $17,056.52, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 4.57/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.67/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its excellent value, fuel efficiency, and feature-rich package. They also like the stylish design and the strong warranty coverage. On the downside, some owners mention an interior layout they dislike, which lines up with the cabin trade-offs noted by experts.
For you, that means the Elantra makes the most sense if you want a compact sedan that leans into style, efficiency, and value rather than luxury polish. It’s especially appealing if you’re shopping for a well-equipped daily driver with broad trim choices.
Good and great deals account for 30.3% of listings, so there’s still meaningful room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Reviewers repeatedly describe it as a dependable, trouble-free choice with strong value and a reputation that inspires confidence over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes top-notch product quality and an industry-leading warranty, which supports the case for long-term ownership. On the cost side, the included maintenance visits add another ownership perk that can reduce early service hassle.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right trim and equipment for your needs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a vehicle-specific record. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re considering a higher-mileage car or one with visible wear. Focus on seat comfort, cabin condition, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re looking at.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE is the most basic version, while the SEL, N Line, and Limited add more equipment and polish. Base-trim cars miss some of the richer tech and convenience touches found higher up the range.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque with a CVT and front-wheel drive. It’s adequate for daily driving, but it can feel short on power during hard acceleration. The N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, while the hybrid setup is tuned for efficiency.
- Safety package: SmartSense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.
- Infotainment: The base setup uses an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, Bluetooth, four speakers, and dual USB ports. Higher trims add two speakers, satellite radio, and connected services, while Limited trims move to a 10.25-inch screen with navigation, a digital instrument cluster, and wireless charging, but wired smartphone integration only.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA combined fuel economy ranges from 37 mpg on the SE to 28 mpg on the N Line with manual transmission and 31 mpg with the DCT. The hybrid reaches 54 mpg in Blue form and 50 mpg in Limited form. In testing, the N Line returned 34.9 mpg.
Which 2022 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE gives you the essentials, but it’s the least upscale choice and misses some of the added convenience and premium touches found higher up the lineup.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL is the best value if you want a stronger feature mix without jumping to the pricier upper trims. It adds more speakers, satellite radio, connected services, and available convenience upgrades.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the best pick if you want the most tech and comfort. It adds the 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, Bose audio, a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and more upscale presentation.
- Off-road trim: The N Line is the enthusiast choice, but its sport seats can be less comfortable on long drives, so it’s not the best fit if you mainly want a relaxed commuter.
The safety package is strongest as you move up the range, with more advanced driver-assistance features becoming available on higher trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,845 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.87% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 78.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,056.52, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $17,557 sits slightly below last year's $18,652.
That price movement suggests the Elantra has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you choose a well-equipped trim with broad appeal, you may have an easier time attracting buyers later. Strong value perception and efficient running costs should also help keep demand steady.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra safe?
It earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for front crash protection and five-star ratings for side crash protection and rollover resistance. The IIHS gave it top Good ratings in all six of its individual crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard SmartSense suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. It also includes driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder system, and Safe Exit Warning.
Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.87% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong value, excellent fuel economy, and a broad safety-and-tech package.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $16,384, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,557 average.
- It introduced the redesign and brought a spacious cabin with strong tech.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $19,627, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,557 average.
- It adds a similarly modern package with a 10.25-inch digital display and broad trim variety.
The bottom line: You should buy the 2022 if you want the best balance of price, features, and safety in this generation. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while still giving you the redesigned Elantra experience. If you want to spend more for a newer example, the 2023 is the cleaner step up, but the 2022 remains the sweet spot for most used shoppers.
