How much does the 2022 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices have softened 7.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,616 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.57/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its excellent value, fuel efficiency, safety features, stylish design, and strong warranty coverage. That lines up with the car’s value-focused mission and its appeal as a roomy compact sedan with a lot of content for the money.

The main trade-offs are an underwhelming base engine and some cabin noise, and the seats are also called out as uncomfortable. Even so, the Elantra fits especially well if you want a practical compact sedan with lots of features and low running costs.

Good and great deals account for 34.8% of listings, so there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for the car’s value, fuel efficiency, safety features, and warranty-backed peace of mind. The expert evaluation also emphasizes top-notch product quality and an industry-leading warranty, which supports the case for long-term confidence.

Hyundai’s complimentary maintenance coverage adds another ownership perk, helping reduce early service costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car has been cared for well, since condition and maintenance history matter more than the model’s strong reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Elantra?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean title alone does not tell you how the car was maintained or repaired. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on tires, brakes, suspension, electronics, and signs of interior wear. Since this model is praised for value and features, make sure the specific car still feels tight, quiet, and well-kept.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited trims differ most in styling, cabin finish, and equipment. The base SE is the most basic, while the N Line adds sporty design touches, sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a black headliner, and aluminum pedals. The Limited brings the most upscale feel, including the 10.25-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, Bose audio, and wireless charging.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The N Line uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft, paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT. The hybrid setup is the efficiency play, combining a 1.6-liter engine, electric motor, and lithium-ion battery.
• Safety package: Standard SmartSense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. It also includes driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and Safe Exit Warning. Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist.
• Infotainment: The base SE gets an 8-inch touchscreen, rearview camera, HD Radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, four speakers, and dual USB ports. SEL, Hybrid Blue, and N Line add two speakers, satellite radio, and Blue Link connected services. Limited trims step up to a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, an eight-speaker Bose system, a digital instrument cluster, dynamic voice recognition, and wireless charging.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA combined fuel economy ranges from 37 mpg for the SE to 28 mpg for the N Line with manual transmission, or 31 mpg with the DCT. The Hybrid Blue returns 54 mpg, and the Hybrid Limited returns 50 mpg.

Which 2022 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want a strong safety and tech package. It gives you the core Elantra experience with the standard 8-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and the full SmartSense safety suite.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more convenience and connectivity without jumping to the pricier upper end. You get extra speakers, satellite radio, Blue Link connected services, and access to more available equipment.
• N Line: Choose this if you want the most engaging gas-powered Elantra. It adds the turbocharged engine, sport-tuned suspension, multi-link rear suspension, larger brakes, and a more athletic cabin and exterior treatment, though the sport seats may not suit everyone on long drives.
• Limited: This is the most upscale choice, with the 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, Bose audio, digital gauge cluster, wireless charging, and the most premium-feeling cabin. It also gets the better headlight rating among the trims discussed in the safety content.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the higher trims unlock more advanced driver-assistance features.

• Inventory: There are 2,616 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.04% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,881, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $16,881 sits slightly below last year's $18,158.

That price movement suggests the Elantra has become more affordable for buyers, which can make it easier to move later if you own one in good condition. For a future seller, the current softness means you may not see the same pricing strength as last year, but the model’s broad appeal still helps support demand.

Strong value, good fuel economy, and a long warranty can keep the car attractive to used shoppers over time. Well-kept examples with desirable trims and clean history should hold up better than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Elantra earns five-star ratings from NHTSA overall, with four-star front crash protection and five-star side crash protection and rollover resistance. It also earns top "Good" ratings from IIHS in all six of its individual crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard SmartSense suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and lane-centering assistance. It also adds driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and Safe Exit Warning.

Higher trims can add intersection turn assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, rear automatic braking, and Highway Drive Assist. One caveat: the lower-level SE, SEL, and N Line trims with halogen headlights received a Marginal IIHS headlight rating, while the Limited’s LED headlights earned a Good rating.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.04% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong value, excellent fuel economy, and a broad safety-and-tech package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,672, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $16,881 average.
• The redesign brought style, space, and tech together in a more upscale-feeling compact sedan.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $18,873, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $16,881 average.
• It broadens the lineup with more versatility, including basic transportation, a hybrid, and a budget sports sedan.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and features at a softened price. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better bargain; if you want a broader lineup and are willing to pay more, the 2023 is worth a look.
