Honda Civic 1999 car turns off all of a sudden
I bought a 1999 Honda Civic lx problems sometimes it takes a few cranks to
turn on other times cranks right away, a few times after starting it just does
then it may start right away or take a few cranks. Radiator fan is always on.
My son was driving home today and all of the sudden rpms dropped , he
stepped on gas more and it did not respond, engine died. He checked for
possible timing belt broken, no smell of burnt rubber, he was on the phone
with me so I finally asked him to see if it would start and it did. I noticed a
recall for ignition switch, but after entering vin # results 0 for this vin . Could it
be coolant temp sensor, since fan always running, cool, distributor, some relay,
or can code be checked with out engine light on?
Just a thought... I had a check engine light several years ago. they replaced my oxygen sensor... about a year later it started acting like it was going to die .. I would push the gas and the car would act like it was out of gas and when I would floor it, it would keep going and act normal again... I thought I had a transmission issue but turns out the oxygen sensor was not installed properly and it was being damaged and shorting out... maybe some clues for you...? I would take it to parts store and have the test done . maybe they reset it right before you bought it and that would make the check engine lights turn off for a bit...
