ok reason i ask is about 3yrs ago i replaced the engine refurbished one the mechanic doin the work ordered the motor its now a buick 231 v8

so chevy went with this engine in how many did they run this motor? ive had alot of issues from fuel replacing the carb now its backfiring through the carb dies leavin a stop sign sometimes. what is compatible or what chevy motor will fit
