Engine repair - please read details
1985 el camino ss - rebuilt trans - rebuild 350 engine.
replaced a 305 fuel injected with a 350 with new holley 4 barrel carb.
Vehicle needs work but have replaced many parts with new parts.
Here are some problems I am having.
Oil pressure gauge not working even after sending unit was replaced.
Having a hard time adjusting the carburator and their is no timing mark.
Heat and air ducts are not working. Blows on defrost and below, but nothing out the vents.
What steps are needed to make the oil presssure gauge work ?
Can I still Time the carburator without the timing mark ?
How should I proceed with the heat and air vents ?.
Starting where, and finishing ?
Any advise is appreciated....
The timing marks are on the crank pulley and the timing chain housing, not the carburetor. Your oil gauge may be bad or maybe the wiring going to it is damaged.
This might help --
The first answer i can understand and that helps. The second answer just wasn't nice. Can't afford a new engine
And to add to F.o.R. answer, you can buy an aftermarket timing tab to bolt on the timing cover. The balancer on the end of the crank has a mark on it. It is best to set-up the carburetor after the motor is timed. I don't know how that motor picture is to help from F.o.R. well just in case, here is another one.
I am not suggesting a new engine - the photo is of the timing marks - sheesh!
MY APOLOGIES TO YOU - I am new at the forum type of questions answers set up. I can appreciate what you are saying, and I am looking for what you suggested. Every person I have brought her to has told me they can't time her. Your info has helped. Again - sorry for the misunderstanding.
Try this....use a vacuum gauge while moving the dist for max vac....the timing will be very close. You can at least drive the car better with this setting to see about further repairs
When using the vacuum gauge as suggested above have the vacuum advance hose disconnected from the distributor.
