1988 Ford ranger 2.9l truck no power to fuel pump

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I bought this truck about two weeks ago
and the day I was planning to drive it home I
first drive it down to the gas station it
sputtered and chugged along I did get it up
to 50 on the highway drive it back after
putting twenty in the tank and back to the
guys were bought it to tell him I was gonna
try to get it back to my house well we did
title stuff twenty minutes later no start at all
so I parked bought time up stuff both the
fuel filter and the water separater filter and
spark plugs wires cap rotor and even after
all that I dropped tank after what I found in
the upper fuel filter gunk and boys and rusty
gas but the tank was pristine so I checked
the wiring tested the circuit no power to
pump so I checked the pump straight to the
battery and it works great now I did see a
wire going to what I think Is the relay coming
out the back of the female connector so I
pushed it back into it made sure it was
connected and tried again no luck but I did
test the connector after I did that and I got
power to the pump connector for like one
second then dead again I wondered why I'd
get power there for that one sec then tried to
do it again and not even the one second
power please help me my car in driving now
goes through like five quarts of oil a week
don't know how long it will last
