I'm having an issue with my 82 Camaro. I keep finding fuel in the crankcase. I replaced the carb and put an electric fuel pump in but still having the problem. Any ideas on what else could be wrong?
Is it a 4 bbl carburetor ( Rochester) ? If so the float has become heavy and saturated with gas. Due to alcohol 10% carbs have many problems due to the fact that it draws moisture
New carb kit and float also epoxy the secondary metering wells drifts on the bottom of center section after cleaning before kit installation
Hello, Is your car still equipped with the Quadrajet w/electonic controls? IE, plug on right (drivers) side with wires toward front of carb? Or, has it been replaced with a standard type Quadrajet? The known issues with most Quadrajets are as Tooloose describes, but in the early 80's, all GM's were victim of the Vent Valve going bad, and the large vacuum hose at the front of the carb top will have excessive vacuum applied at part throttle, and literally suck gas out of the bowl. Easy check, remove spring clamp, and plug the hose; and, cover the barb on the carb temporarily. If mileage improves, and oil level doesn't rise, there is your problem. If you run this car often, the problem of leaking fuel wells doesn't fill up the oil near as fast as the problem I have mentioned,... Good Luck, AskTrannyMan
It is a quadrajet with electric controls. I will check that. Thank you all
