98 Dodge Durango wont start

Asked by MonksAssassin Feb 18, 2014 at 10:09 AM about the 1998 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 98 durango was having problems starting ,once started sometimes it would run good
and sometimes it would lack power sputer and try to die. I did a full tune up and now it
wont start. I double checked the firing order,I have spark and good fuel pressure.I also
checked for codes and pulled only one for the Governor pressure sensor, but that is for
the tranny . I need some ideas before I start digging into the PCM

Are you getting a spark ? if not it could be a bad coil if you have the 5.2 or 5,9 engines. Can you hear the fuel pump turning on when you put the ignition to on with out turning over the engine if not it could be a dead fuel pump or a blown fuse. Is it turning over if not check your battery and alternator. bad battery´s often result in engine running badly and die when in idle, so have it load tested and clean the connectors.

If it just cranks and cranks but won’t start wiggle the PCM (computer connectors) you’ll here it make a clincking noise of some sort like not the connectors but the engine itself will and then it’ll crank right up. If it doesn’t crank at all but voltage and everything else is good, it would be the park/neutral safety switch that may be bad.
