Brake Pedal Soft, ABS and Brake Warning Lights On

Asked by bobw79 Dec 16, 2013 at 12:24 PM about the 1998 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My brake pedal all of a sudden went soft as I was coming to a stop and my ABS and brake lights are on...I still have stopping power...but something is definitely wrong...after $300 my mechanic said he bleed the lines and some air came out...however he thought it was fixed...the mechanic said if it happened again he would have to change the master cylinder? Is he right?

Check the fuses both on the side of the dash and under the hood if they are all ok check the level in the brake fluid reservoir if you have enough fluid and there is no air in the system I´m afraid your mechanic is right.

Sounds like the front flex brake line hoses to front wheels are bad, they have a tendency to collapse internally, this is apparently a common problem.
