My 2013 Ford Explorer has a ticking noise in the dash when I turn the heater on. What is this?

My 2013 Ford Explorer has a ticking noise in the dash when I turn the heater on.  It has stopped a couple of times, but when it is making the noise it is loud.

If it stops when the heat is turned off, it is probably the fan that circulates the air (heat).
