Coolant boiling in reservoir tank after shut off. No over heating.

Asked by Durangadanga May 07, 2019 at 06:08 PM about the 2003 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I cut off my engine it starts boiling in my
reservoir and spews out a good bit of coolant. I
can put pressure on the cap and hose area and
press down and it stops.  I feel like I hear air
coming or going,  which also stops as the pressure
is applied.  Bought new cap today thinking that
was the fix and problem persists. Water pump
seems to be working properly by observing the
coolant being pushed past the cap.  All hoses have
no leaks.

Well from past experience I would lean towards head gasket usually boiling into reservoir is combustion gases in cooling system you can Google leak down test with your specific vehicle and get the procedure to try that n see what results you get..did the new cap help at all.? I know everyone goes directly to head gasket but like I said usually if it continues and there's no other apparent causes it can be a slight seepage in the head gasket or slight head lifting causing the pressure in cooling system...are you able to see any white smoke coming from your exhaust at all.?? Not the smoke when it's cold I mean WHITE smoke.?
