Can most automotive shops serialize the battery to the car's computer or does it have to be done at the dealer or can I do it?

The charging system has a variable alternator that works in conjunction with the battery to change the amperage output depending on the electrical load. The battery / charge circuit "learns" over time and when a new battery is installed the battery's charging and discharging characteristics are slightly different. The system has to be reset and the battery "registered " with the cars computer. This is pretty standard on German gear. I register my batteries myself in my Mini. Foxwell scanner for BMW/Mini can do it. It is just registering the battery when changed so the charging system can self-analyze battery condition throughout the life of the battery.

Can someone identify which Foxwell scanner works for BMW/Mini to register the battery?
