2012 Hyundai Sonata 2.0t Acceleration Problem

Asked by Joey Jan 07, 2020 at 10:46 AM about the 2012 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T Limited FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a sonata 2.0t, and whenever I crank the
car up just one time and I go to drive it
accelerates super slow, but when I crank it
twice it is like the problem goes away and it
drives fine. It threw a code saying turbo boost
high I can not remember the exact code
number. I have read a ton of forums on this
issue and haven’t found any good answer
other than the electronic wastegate going bad
or being out of adjustment. I went a bought a
wastegate from the dealer and the rod on the
wastegate was pre adjusted. I installed the
new on and problem persists! No code thrown
this time just super slow unless I crank the car
twice! Can someone help me please!?

I have a 2011 Sonata and have had so many problems with the turbo. I've been taking it to a mechanic who has replaced a couple of things but I continue to have intermittent problems with the turbo not working. I'm fed up with this mechanic and will take it to Hyundai next. Surely Hyundai can figure it out.

Joey, do you have any update? I’m having a similar problem. The dealership told me the problem may be the wastegate control but they aren’t sure. When they drive it “everything is fine”. I’m hesitant to throw money away on something that isn’t the problem.
