I had a harbor freight grease gun that would not prime, the one I had used a little plug right in the front next to the piston housing, removed the plug and forced some grease out through the plug then put it back in then pushed on the plunger as I pumped the handle and within a few seconds it started working.

When buying a grease gun buy only a Lincoln brand. With grease guns as well as many other things you get what you pay for. An inferior quality grease gun can be one of the most confounding and irritating things you will ever own. In my opinion, most of the stuff Harbor Freight sells is second rate China junk so I refrain from spending my money there.
