engine problem
Asked by eddy779 Jan 09, 2016 at 02:16 AM about the 2004 BMW 5 Series 545i Sedan RWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
increased emissions, service engine soon, and serious performance loss. also
has very hard vibration and harsh idle. still vibrates when clutch is depressed.
one mechanic told me it is the rod bearing(s). it has multiple misfires. the
vibration problem and power loss came before too but a simple spark plug
change prevented it for a month. After swapping all the plugs and oil change
the problem doesnt go away. it started with a metallic ticking noise and
developed into more. It now sounds much worse almost like the cylinder is
swooshing around

Wow, it might be too late, but if the SES light is on, scan for codes, surprised your mechanic didn't do this first. Misfires aren't always just from the plugs, could be the coils. Metallic ticking noises aren't good. Post the codes back here any local auto parts store will do this for free.
