From Dodge: Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. -- If equipped, remove the silencer from below the driver side of the instrument panel. -- Disconnect the wire harness connector from the blend door actuator located on the driver side of the air distribution housing. -- Remove the two screws that secure the blend door actuator to the actuator mounting bracket and remove the actuator. -- My opinion: I don't have a Nitro so can't tell you if this procedure is correct. If you can view the actuator, operate the controls and see if it responds. Most of the time it's a bad actuator and the door itself is fine. If it doesn't respond like it should, pull it off and plug the wiring harness into a new actuator in your hand, then operate the controls and see if the new actuator responds like it should. (the door should also be able to swing freely with the old actuator gone.) If the new actuator does respond then you've confirmed it was a bad actuator, install the new one and you should be done. If it doesn't then the problem lies with the controls.
