How often do I change the oil in my 2010 Volkswagen Beetle?

Asked by Jun 01, 2012 at 10:39 AM about the 2010 Volkswagen Beetle 2.5L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I purchased from Carmax.  They stated you don't have to use synthenic oil, but I was recommended to go to Volkswagen and have them to do it.

VW recommends Synthetic oil, and while you can use regular motor oil, don't. Carmax sent you to the dealer so they would put the right stuff in. I'd personally add Mobil 1 which is synthetic 5W-40 and change at 7500miles if you were doing it yourself. Look in the owners manual if it was left in the glovebox. It should specify which grade of oil to use and how often to change.

Thanks!! My father actually told me to go vw for the oil change. Thanks again, I appreciate the honesty!

In canada it is once every 8,000 kilometers, which would be about every 5,000 miles. But yeah listen to Tom and check the manual and VW dealeer.

Thanks! I will definitley take both of your recommendations!!

Tom rocks again. Dubs love their Synthetic. I, personally, on the "big 5s" on my odometer. So, increments of 5K (20K, 25K, etc.). Find it easier to remember when to change it then. I do use 5w-40 for my bug and I have always used Mobil 1 in all my vehicles. Its a great product and I have nothing but the best to say about it.

I work at a VW dealer and the factory recommends every 10,000 miles and to use Synthetic oil always.
