Question type: Maintenance & Repair

All of a sudden a light came on my dash it was a red lightening bolt. Then my car just lost power and it will not go over 20 mph. Please help me. A friend said it may be the spark plugs but i want to buy the right part as soon as i can find out what i need,

That red lightning bolt must have set a fault code so have it scanned and see what happened and get it fixed. The parts store will usually scan for free and interpret your codes.

Thanks. So i ordered one and my fiance put it in. We unplugged the battery and guess what? Its still doing it :( .. the lightening bolt is coming on and off and still will not go over 20 mph!! Its so sad do you know what else it could be?? I am probably going to take to the shop but i want to see if maybe we can fix ourselves it saves us $ lol we usually do most of car work ourselves

Like I said, scan for codes before buying parts that won't fix it. Your engine's computer is full of valuable diagnostic information. You just have to communicate with it and see what the red lightning bolt means. No doubt that's why it goes only 20mph.

Probably already taken care of.. but for future reference.. accelerator pedal sensor if not the throttle body

It is a cam or crankshaft position sensor. There are 2 on the top, 1 on either side of your engine.... the 3rd is located underneath and must be accessed by lifting the car and it is located at the back bottom of your engine. I've had it happen 3 different times to me and told the mechanic what it is each time, I was correct each time. This model car is known for this. Look up the videos on YouTube if you'd like to confirm
