I have a 1992 Buick Park Avenue the key was lost but had one made the dash lights come on but will not engage the starter what could be the problem?

We have had a new key made with the computer chip in it and still will not engage the starter. But the dash lights and the stuff has power inside the car.

I assume you had the key cut, right? Since it is a transponder key, you need to program it to the car. If it is a second key, you can easily program it using this method...http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=IqE_pWqZH3c......But if it is your ONLY key, you need to visit a locksmith of the dealership to do it for you. They have to program it to the actual car with the VIN number.
