Knocking noise from '04 regal gs

Asked by Jan 26, 2016 at 09:53 AM about the 2004 Buick Regal GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

First I will say thank you and sorry I have to post this for my son.
My son has a 2004 Buck Regal GS that his grandparents gave him as a
cherry.
I think he spun a rod bearing trying to get his car out of the snow but I have a
question.
Is it possible that a knocking sound similar to a spun bearing could be coming
from the super charger? I am checkeing the oil in it today.
The motor only has about 50,000 miles.

I doubt the supercharger would knock. Did he rev the engine past redline trying to get out of the snow?

That seems to be a problem with that engine, if there is even the slightest bit of weakness in the bottom end it throws a rod, an experience my Dad had on one of his Buick's he bought a used and also opted for the powertrain insurance, 45 days later it developed a knock in the bottom end, bad rod bearing, so the shop and the insurance opted for a used engine and put it in, after that was done he went for a small trip about 500 miles 300 miles into it, bang, knock knock, it was towed to the nearest servicing dealer and again the insurance opted for another used engine, all done, trip ruined he headed back home, got home ok then the next day he was headed back into town and bang again, another rod, this time the insurance company bit the bullet and replaced the motor with a new one, end of problems, so thats my 2 cents worth. hope it was informational.
