Car shakes under 30mph
Hi I just bought this car and found when the car is under 30mph it shakes almost like it's an idle issue. Once past the speed of 30mph it smooths out. Can this be an engine issue or a mechanical issue. This is my first Volvo. Thanks for any help.
Unfortunately there are several potential causes for this phenomenon and the only way to accurately and quickly pinpoint the problem would be to have a professional inspect the car. I have seen shaking such as you describe caused by many things including: wheel misalignment, bad tires, mismounted wheels, failure in suspension or engine mounts, and problems with the brake system.
Would you recommend going to a Volvo dealer or will a local mechanic be able to handle this? Thanks for the info.
While I wouldnt recommend going into your average car garage, a large garage that specializes in tires and suspension might be able to help you. For example, my father had an issue with the mounting of some aftermarket rims on his Acura RL and a local GOODYEAR was able to identify the issue for substantially less than what the dealership would have cost. Considering the age of your Volvo (2001) I would recommend exploring your options before bringing it in to a dealership.
Thanks for the help. I just hope its not an issue with it running rough.
