Question type: Maintenance & Repair

hey guys. i have a 2006 RX8 Shinka Edition. I have 81k on my car. Recently (5 days ago mazda sent me a brand new rotor motor and the dealership installed everything at no charge to me. Reason why is i was only getting 170 miles to a full tank of gas and they said the old motor failed the compression test. Now with the new motor im only getting 180 miles on my first tank and 170 miles on my second tank. Mind you i dont put my "foot down" on it. I run and shift gears around 4500-5000, i drive in 6 on the highway at 70/75. I will redline in 1st gear sometimes. Anybody have any ideas? its going back to the dealership to get looked at on friday

Sounds like your driving habits are to blame for the bad mileage, granted rotaries don't get the best mileage, try driving it like you have a rotten egg under your foot on the gas pedal, accelerate slowly and smoothly, shift around 3500 rpm, do not go past 4000 rpm, anything above that put the ECM into performance mode and will give you poor mileage. I used to race these little engines in my younger days and the mileage you are seeing is what I was getting with my street RX7, my off road engine got worse than that but it was highly modified for a sand buggy. thanks for the advice. Ive been driving a stick for 15 years now. This tank im running super and im shifting at 3500/4000. im about 95 miles right above half a tank marker. I didnt buy it expecting great gas mpg but i thought better than 8/10 mpg. My last car i drove was a 2009 6 speed vette. i know big difference.

Yeah a big difference, rotaries are a totally different beast.

haha! You hear of RX8 having rear end issues??? I got a noise it comes and goes coming from the passenger rear side?

Most of the problems I ran across we're bushing related other than they can't handle the really rough stuff. You could have a spider gear or an axle bearing starting to go.
