Taking care of my Miata

Asked by Nov 24, 2015 at 12:47 AM about the 2000 Mazda MX-5 Miata LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I love this site but all of the feeds are a mixed match of questions and
answers as to where I cannot get a fix on a complete solution.So....here
are a few questions that I would like answered if possible. I would like to
know what maintenance should be performed on a 2000 Mazda Miata Mx-
5 LE. What is the size of the round bulb below the headlight ( I need to
replace a cracked one ). What would be the approximate cost for a tune-up
and how much would it cost to have my soft top (leather) replaced with a
hard top. Lastly, if there is condensation on the inside of your windshield as
well as the outside, should I panic. Oh....I forgot, are you suppose to feel
every bump, I mean I know it ( Miata ) is low to the ground but jeez....I feel
as though I am riding a pony with no saddle in the mountains....Thanks!!!

Recommended Maintenance should be spelled out in the back of your owner manual. Most cars are pretty much the same on the intervals for oil and fluids and other swaps. Search online at mazdausa for the maintenance manual. No clue on the headlight, stop into your mazda parts department to pick another one and while you are there you can ask for how much they will charge to replace the spark plugs and fluids as there is no such thing as a "tuneup anymore", same with the cost of the hardtop. Condensation on the inside windows is always an indication you have water/humidy in the car. Are your carpets and floor mats wet and soaked with water? Maybe from a ripped soft top? How many miles on the car, over 60k, and it might be time for new struts and other suspension components.

I have the manual but wanted a mechanic's opinion see I just wanted the info as armor when I go to Mazda so that I will not be inclined to agree to things that are not a HIGH priority. I just purchased " little Mia " in August and was taken on a test drive and I guess because it was summer I did not get this kind of stuff happening. My floor/carpeting was not wet but I just never seen this before. I was looking at some of the questions on your site concerning rain rails, I think I should have that checked as well. Just want to have my questions in hand before I face a Mazda tech. I have 85,000 miles as of today.....Thanks for the information Tom...I am quite sure I will hit you up once again....
