engine cuts out after road trip of a couple hours
After driving on the highway for about two hours my jetta 2.5 acts like
someone shut off the gasoline. It lasts for about 5 seconds and then the
fuel returns. It does this over and over. If I pull off the road and try to go
slow it just stops. It restarts easily and runs OK as long as it is in neutral or
park and I am not running the AC. It idles fine. If I put it in gear the rpm's
drop and the engine stops. If I just let it idle and turn on the ac the rpm's
drop and it stops. I have replaced the fuel filter, changed plugs and had it
checked at the VW dealer. They did all the work. It did it before the
maintenance was done and still does it after. I had the converter check by
a muffler shop and they say it is OK. I will add one more item to the issue.
I have had all the time a strong odor of sulfur coming in via the AC. I had
the dealer check for any exhaust leaks or problems. Nothing found. This
car has been well maintained. It looks new and has 93000 miles.
