I had a bad fuel pump. I replaced it. I could start car with starting fluid in intake but would only run for few seconds. So I replaced fuel relay. Still doing same thing. any suggestions. 03 vw 1.8t
I would go to the fuel pump and see if it's getting power when cranking the engine and work my way back from there. You may not be getting a signal from the engine or PCM to run the fuel pump after all. Don't replace any more parts (unless you're rich and bored) until you diagnose the problem. Fuel pump won't run unless the computer tells it to - the computer won't tel it to unless it gets the proper signals from either the start circuit or ignition system.
I have the same problem with my 2001 Jetta 1.8T Wolfsburg. When I attempt to start it , it only runs for a very brief moment. I've changed the fuel filter and I can hear the fuel pump when I turn the key on. There's also a yellow light with a car and key flashing on the dashboard when I turn the key on. I'm beginning to think something might have gone wrong with the security system. I've also touched the two battery cables together to "reset" the computer so I've been told. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate any tips.
