A generic code scanner will work, plug it into the OBDII port located on the lower dash on the driver side of the vehicle. Then look up the codes online to help you find a solution or ask another question here for help. A simple way is to twist the key on an off three times in succession without starting the engine, the third time, just leave it in the ON position. Now the display it will display done if no codes, if you have a code or codes, they will flash and cycle through.
