Cranking but no start. Will get a pop from the exaust like it wants to fire

Asked by Suckerforchevys May 14, 2019 at 11:46 PM about the 2002 Chevrolet S-10 LS Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought a 02 s10 4.3 crew cab. It ran good
but noticed it was leaking oil and antifreeze pretty
rapidly. I changed all upper and lower intake
gaskets, timing cover. Plugs wires and distributor
with new cap and rotor. It cranks quick and I get a
small pop from the exaust but won't start. Also
have a strong fuel smell under the hood. I did clean
the intake and injectors when everything was
apart. I set my timing marks on balancer and
distributor. I'm exhausted with this thing. I should
have let it go and just threw a quart of oil in twice a
month at this point. Any input would be great. Like
I said started right up and ran fine before taking
aoart

I'm having this same exact problem. I did everything thing you stated. It's tricky to find top dead center if your valve cover isn't off. while you manually crank the motor by hand with a ratchet you have to check cylinder#1's rocker arms to make sure both valves are closed completely.. if I'm not mistaken
