Sounds like a sticking shift solenoid in the valve body of the transmission (I'm assuming it's an automatic). These GM solenoids are very troublesome. Especially if you have some miles on the car. Is the check engine or service engine soon light on? If so, scan the computer and it'll tell you which solenoid(s) are bad. HTH. - Jim
