How do I release the shift lock

Stoped car,went to put the trans. in
park and it will not go all the way in and
now is stuck. And key won't turn off all
the way

Check your ignition switch sometimes the tumblers go bad and look at your cable going to the trans sometimes they need lubrication they will kink after time from wear
